Thales Alenia Space requires a Systems Engineering Lead (Payload Systems) to lead the Payload Systems Engineering within phase B/C/D of our technical proposals. The Systems Engineering Lead will take part in the preliminary payload budgets along with interfacing with the project team and in particular with Mechanical / Thermal & Electrical.

Key Responsibilities and tasks

  • Lead the Payload System Engineering tasks at TAS-UK in the frame of the phase B
  • Analyse the requirements and translate them into subsystem specifications
  • Critically review inputs from the Payload teams
  • Develop the payload accommodation scheme and conduct trade-offs where necessary
  • Iterate trade offs and supporting analyses as necessary based on preliminary performance assessments of key parameters for the baseline (including technical, operational, programmatic, cost factors, etc.).
  • Prepare payload module block diagrams and associated descriptions.
  • Allocate/co ordinate the issue of initial budgets and later updates reflecting the evolving design
  • Establish/maintain Verification Control Documentation
  • Deliver technical documents for proposals and reviews.
  • Contribute to TAS development in the UK

Experience and Skills
  • System engineering knowledge and experience.
  • Experience of requirements management tools (e.g. DOORS)
  • Experience in spaceborne payloads, experiments
  • Experience in technical proposal preparation would be an asset
  • Experience of working in a multi-discipline team environment
  • Experience with producing relevant documents and presenting at reviews.
  • Customer, partners, suppliers interface
  • Experience of R&D projects, satellites studies

Education & Qualifications
  • Engineering or Physics degree
