If you are interested in making an impact, then General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) is the place for you. GDMS has an opening for a Principal Systems Engineer to join a team of engineers that design and manufacture a range of high-assurance, ruggedized computer systems, including mission computers, platform computing, special-purpose supercomputers and signal processing systems.

Key Responsibilities

The Principal Systems Engineer participates in programs to research, design, develop, integrate and test new systems prior to production and deployment.

Responsibilities may include the following:

  • Manage Requirements

  • Develop test plans, procedures and reports

  • Write test scripts

  • Develop emulation methodologies

  • Investigate and resolve problem reports

  • Integrate and test software and systems

  • Provide direction to junior Systems Engineers

Additional Responsibilities

  • Exercise creative thinking and ideation to advance our business performance

  • Deliver innovative, flexible, integrated solutions to meet customers changing business needs

  • Support and engage in programs, projects and practices behind the General Dynamics Mission Systems culture and strategy, and comply with all policies and procedures

  • Follow industry and department trends and developments to ensure General Dynamics Mission Systems' services are consistent with, and/or superior to, industry best practices

  • Become subject matter expert on Airborne Computing Systems

Candidates must demonstrate a thorough understanding of Systems Engineering principles. Candidates must demonstrate passion for innovation, a sophisticated understanding of various engineering and business systems and the ability to further advance GDMS offerings to the customer.

The Principal Systems Engineer position requires a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent and at least eight to ten years of related experience. Applicants with a master's degree and a minimum of six to eight years of related experience are also eligible.

Candidate must have significant experience with the following:

  • Writing and tracing System level requirements in DOORS or similar requirements management systems

  • Microsoft Office tools

  • Proficient in C, C++

  • Hands on experience with scripting language (DXL, perl, or python)

  • Modeling with Unified Modeling Language (UML) and Rhapsody

  • Avionics interfaces MIL-STD-1760 and MIL-STD-1553

  • Airborne Communications

Candidates must have good written, verbal and presentation communication skills and the ability to produce effective, clear and concise technical documentation.

Applicants selected may be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
