General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Safety Assessment Engineer to join our team. The selected candidate will be responsible for performing nuclear safety assessment of the Fire Control System and related products throughout the development, deployment, and sustainment lifecycles, using multiple safety analysis techniques. This engineer will perform nuclear safety assessments, develop analysis reports and presentations and defend assessment results when scrutinized by the SP23 customer.

The Safety Assessment Engineer will develop solutions to a variety of difficult problems of considerable scope and complexity, using established precedents and policies. The selected engineer will have excellent oral and written communications skills, perform work under general direction, and support frequent communications within and across multi-discipline Integrated Product Teams. You will also team with multiple internal and external stakeholders and foster team collaboration, and support and participate in external meetings and reviews with program team members including Government Customers, Prime Contractors, Government Laboratories, and Program Support Agencies.

Candidates must demonstrate passion for innovation, a sophisticated understanding of various engineering systems and the ability to further advance General Dynamics Mission Systems technology.

Ability to travel to support Customer-level and Design Agent meetings and reviews is required. (Travel is approximately 10% of time.)

The Safety Assessment Engineer position requires a bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or other related scientific or technical discipline, or the equivalent and at least eight to ten years of related work experience. Applicants with a master's degree in Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or other related scientific or technical discipline, or the equivalent and a minimum of six to eight years of related experience are also eligible.

Candidates must have the ability to obtain a Department of Defense security clearance at the time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
