Responsibilities for this Position: Global Imaging Technologies (GIT), a Business Area within General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS), with multiple operating divisions located throughout the US, manufactures and sells a broad range of high performance electro-mechanical and electro-optical systems, sub-systems and components to the aerospace, defense, homeland security (protecting our soldier and guarding our borders), broadcast and film, and international markets.

We are actively seeking an Engineering Project Lead for our growing backlog of optic/camera projects. In this role as an Engineering Project Lead for GIT, you will:
  • Lead multi-functional teams comprised of Optical, Opto-Mechanical, Electrical and Camera Systems Engineers
  • Represent GDMS GIT to the customer
  • Assemble and lead design reviews both internally and externally
  • Manage the overall cost, schedule, performance, risks, and opportunities of the project
  • Manage engineering resources to complete project scope of work
  • Assess and develop the strengths of the team resources
  • Identify, develop, analyze, and report project metrics
  • Manage engineering interfaces to the Customer
  • Manage program interfaces with the Program Manager (schedule, budget, risk, critical concerns, opportunities)
  • Manage day-to-day performance and provide performance inputs to functional managers of assigned team members
  • Communicate resource requirements to functional managers
  • Implement effective corrective actions
  • Manage resolution of technical issues, communicate the resolution to all affected parties, and ensure that the resolution is carried out in all of the affected artifacts

Basic Qualifications: The Senior Engineering Project Lead position requires a bachelor’s degree in Optical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Mechanical or Systems Engineering, or a related technical field or the equivalent experience. In addition, a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience is required.

Must be able to travel 20% of the time.

Qualifications (Preferred):
  • Manage program execution efforts and establish department best practices including EVMS and project plans
  • Plan, authorize, and monitor the engineering work
  • Establish project staffing plans
  • 2 years of leadership experience preferred
  • A high level of knowledge and an understanding of mechanical and optical
  • Camera systems engineering is desired
  • Experience with mobile camera systems would be helpful
