General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) has an immediate opening for a Security Sensor Subject Matter Expert to join the Nuclear Weapons Security (NWS) Research and Development team in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. The position provides an opportunity to develop and advance the cutting-edge technology that supports one of our nation's fundamental defense services. GDMS employees work closely with esteemed clients to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions. The selected candidate's primary focus will be leading a cross functional team in the design, integration, installation, and test of critical security infrastructure associated with the Nuclear Weapons Security (NWS) program, which provides the integrated hardware and software platforms that protect our nation's strategic assets. This engineer will work with Program Management and the integrated product team to develop and implement key NWS subsystems. The individual will enhance his/her skill set by working in a challenging and fast-paced environment with a talented and technically accomplished group of colleagues. The employee must be flexible and able to work in a very dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

The Security Sensor SME and Integrator provides the expertise required to provide guidance to the team in the selection, integration, installation, tuning, and operation of various sensor phenomenology. Specific responsibilities may include:

  • Investigate ways to increase the reliability and availability of the system

  • Investigate predictive maintenance technologies

  • Lead the integration efforts of sensor technology into the overall system

  • Lead the design of potential sensor testing facilities

  • Define technology selection, integration, and validation methodologies

  • Perform gap analysis on deployed systems

  • Establish and maintain positive customer relationships built on trust and respect.

  • Mentor junior engineers in both good systems engineering practices as well as in physical security systems design

  • Strive for commonality and efficiencies both within assigned programs and across the spectrum of other SSP programs

  • Exercise creative thinking and ideation to advance our business performance

  • Suggest improvements and innovations in design and implementation to enhance system performance and meet customer changing business needs

  • Support and engage in programs, projects, and practices behind the General Dynamics culture and strategy, and comply with all policies and procedures

  • Follow industry and department trends and developments to ensure General Dynamics services are consistent with, and/or superior to, industry best practices

  • Identify and support advance concept efforts in support of Mission and Strategic Systems strategic plans and objectives

Additional Responsibilities:

Additionally, the Security Sensor Integration Engineer may be required to support business management functions within General Dynamics, including pursuits, proposals, and Research and Development efforts.

Candidates must show a passion for innovation, a sophisticated understanding of emerging technologies, and the ability to work directly with government customers in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

The Nuclear Weapons Security (NWS) Design Engineer position requires a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering (EE), Computer Information Systems (CIS), Computer Engineering (CPE), or Software Engineering, or equivalent experience and at least five to eight years of related work experience. Applicants with a master's degree and a minimum of three to five years of related experience are also eligible.

Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
