United Technologies Research Centre Ireland, Ltd. (UTRCI), established in 2009, conducts research into the next generation of energy and security systems for high-performance buildings, generating world-class technologies for UTC's commercial businesses worldwide. Recently, UTRC Ireland added aerospace systems research to its portfolio to support UTC's large industrial presence in Europe. UTRCI seeks candidates with expertise in separation and reaction engineering with focus on environmental control and life support technologies and their implementation in aerospace and commercial buildings. The successful candidate will be responsible for technical oversight and guidance of externally and internally funded projects, including management of multi-disciplinary teams, interaction with partners and reporting to funding agencies. In addition, the successful candidate will support and guide UTRCI's expansion in the area of indoor air quality through partnership with UTC business units, universities and industries with the goal to provide a competitive advantage for UTC's business units.
The position requires strong technical and analytical skills and experience assessing, developing and implementing air cleaning technologies in real-world environments.
The ideal candidate is an experienced individual with a strong technology development background, demonstrated project leadership, and familiarity with the external resource and development process. In addition, the ideal candidate works well in an international teaming environment and has excellent interpersonal, leadership and communication skills.
A minimum of a doctoral degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering or Chemistry with 4 to 7+ years of industrial or academic experience.
• Expert knowledge in at least one of the following areas: (a) gas separation; (b) gas sensing.
• Solid knowledge of building HVAC and aircraft ECS systems.
• A proven research credential with publications in journals and conferences in the relevant field and/or a patent portfolio is required. Experience in successful grant proposal writing is a plus.
• Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team to successfully achieve desired technical outcomes within time and budget constraints.
• Ability to adapt to new challenges and go beyond the original field of expertise.
