GDMS has an opening for a Senior Principal Software Engineer to join a team of engineers that design and manufacture a range of high-assurance, ruggedized combat systems, including mission computers, platform computing, special-purpose supercomputers and signal processing systems.

Key Responsibilities

Senior Principal Software Engineers conduct or participate in the design development, and integration development of systems software, software applications and/or tools for new programs and subprograms.

Responsibilities may include the following:

  • Provide technical leadership to develop and present innovative solutions for high assurance systems

  • Organize a team around the architecture and actively contribute to planning activities

  • Investigate and resolve problems

  • Provide direction to integrate and test software and systems along with significant hands on experience

Additional Responsibilities

  • Exercise creative and innovative thinking to advance our business performance

  • Deliver innovative, flexible, integrated solutions to meet customers changing business needs

  • Understand the high assurance processing business domain to anticipate likely architecture changes

  • Support numerous programs simultaneously

  • Rapidly absorb new knowledge bases and incorporate them into new and existing architectures

  • Support and engage in programs, projects and practices behind the General Dynamics Mission Systems culture and strategy, and comply with all policies and procedures

  • Follow industry and department trends and developments to ensure General Dynamics Mission Systems' services are consistent with, and/or superior to, industry best practices

Candidates must show a passion for innovation, a sophisticated understanding of software systems and applications, and the ability to effectively manage, grow and evolve General Dynamics Mission Systems software solutions. They must have strong written and verbal communication skills and an ability to negotiate with stakeholders.

The Senior Principal Software Engineer position requires a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent field and a minimum of ten years of related experience; or master's degree and a minimum of eight years of related experience.

Candidates should be experienced with the following software development skills:

  • Software requirements analysis

  • C/C++ embedded application software development

  • Embedded operating systems including RTOS and partitioned OS environments

  • Network systems and tools

  • Safety critical software systems

  • Software security engineering

  • UML modeling

Applicants selected may be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
