About the Business Line
AECOM's Global Support Services (GSS) organization resides within AECOM's Government business line and is comprised of three divisions - International Development, Operations and Mission Support, and Global Programs. Job Summary
AECOM is looking for an Submarine Combat Engineering Technician 5 to support the MARMC contract in Norfolk VA. Located at Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC), in Code 271 (Sub Combat Systems). These positions are for experienced Engineering Technicians performing installation, repairs, testing and maintenance of submarine Combat Systems software/hardware, and associated retained systems related to the combat systems and weapons launchers. Fiber-optics experience a plus. Must have six years specialized experience in the operations, maintenance, testing and repair of submarine electrical, mechanical, and/or electronic systems. Must also have experience in evaluating material condition of ships systems and taking corrective action.
  • Install, monitor, and service equipment and systems at Company and client sites including onboard submarines.
  • Perform or coordinate test and evaluation, checkout, certification tasks. Perform validations/verifications of various electronic systems.
  • Design and write test procedures, critique system test procedures, and assist in the development of upgrades and enhancements
  • Implement engineering change instructions.
  • Investigate systems problems and provide white papers on the results of the investigation. Prepare recommendations and solutions on system problems to include alternate testing to verify change
  • Train others in the operation and performance of the system(s).
  • Establish and maintain a filing system, databases and logs as needed for tracking project status and inventory.
  • Direct on-site customer interface for equipment/system installation, testing, survey, fabrication, and other engineering tasks as needed.
  • Comply with engineering documentation standards, engineering plans, system specifications and test procedures.
  • Provide technical data and evaluation for components, equipment and systems consistent with engineering plans, layout and contract requirements.
  • Serve as senior/lead technician and assist in the training of other technicians.
  • May coordinate and supervise a team of employees for a given job with responsibility for scheduling tasks, monitoring, technical and employee performance.
  • May support engineers in the development of technical proposal and provide input on the technical content and level of effort of the proposed scope of work.
  • Provide technical support that is recognized outside of AECOM as one of the few industry or discipline of experts.

Work is performed in a shop or shipboard environment that is moderately lighted, heated and ventilated, is exposed to disagreeable fumes and to cuts and bruises from using tools in close placed and hazards of moving vehicles such as forklifts and sweepers in shop area. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and taste or smell. Frequently lifts items weighing 15-25 pounds and occasionally in excess of 44 pounds. The employee is required to push, pull, turn and position parts, assemblies equipment, and tools. Lifts and moves heavier items with the assistance of other workers and with lifting devices such as jacks, hoists, and cranes. Often exposed to the possibility of receiving burns and skin irritations from acid, fluids, and lubricants. The employee is required to follow prescribed safety practices and use safety equipment such as protective ear devices, hardhat, hard-toe shoes, respirators, and protective clothing. Safety items may be uncomfortable to wear or use, and may be worn or used for long periods.

Minimum Requirements
Vocational/technical training beyond high school and at least ten years of job-related experience or equivalent in the design, installation, test and repair of submarine combat systems. Excellent communications and analytical skills; working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs. Some positions may require the ability to investigate, troubleshoot, and design solutions to problems in operational hardware and software. Position may require travel. Secret Security Clearance Required
