This candidate will be engaged in the engineering production of electric transmission projects. The candidate will have a clear understanding of all aspects of the design of electric substations. This understanding must be sufficient to design and oversee the design of physical and electrical aspects including protection and controls systems and grounding. The candidate will have experience in transmission level voltages (69kV to 500kV). Experience with EPC projects is desired. |
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
The function of this role is as a Project Engineer. As this is a lead engineer role, the candidate must be able to demonstrate leadership capabilities. Leadership will include the ability to supervise 3 or more direct reports, providing performance evaluation and feedback. The lead engineer will give input to the the Office Manager for work assignments with consideration of project needs, productivity and meaningful work assignments. He must also have the ability to mentor and teach design engineers and technicians, along with monitoring and championing their career growth.
Black & Veatch uses a thorough quality assurance program which is implemented and overseen by the Project Engineer. The project engineer is also responsible for maintaining man-hour budgets and schedules for the tasks and projects assigned to him by the Project Manager.
The candidate will assist in the preparation of project proposals. This includes engineering and construction cost estimates, the planning of project approach, conceptual design, budgeting and scheduling.
The Lead Substation Engineer may have frequent contact with our clients. As such, this will require excellent verbal and written communication skills in the English language. This engineer may occasionally work directly with our clients to resolve issues relating to project scope, schedule budget and quality.
Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing. Minimum of 8 years related work experience.
