Job Summary
AECOM is participating in every major P3 project in Canada (e.g. Gordie Howe International Bridge, Regional Express Rail, major LRT projects, etc.) either as the Owner Engineer or as the Contractor's Engineer. AECOM Canada is acting as a Centre of Excellence for the delivery of P3 projects in North America. The Area Design Manager is responsible to provide leadership and overall management of the Area in which they are assigned to on a large transit project. Primary responsibilities include undertaking design management of large DB and P3 transit and other infrastructure projects.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Primary contact for Package Managers and staff assigned to Area
  • Fostering creativity and innovation working with a multi-disciplinary team to meet project goals and deliver high quality technical excellence
  • Demonstrating mature judgment in anticipating and solving both routine and unusual operations problems, determining objectives and requirements, organizing programs and projects, and developing standards and guides for diverse engineering activities
  • Providing technical guidance and staff development in support of the delivery of a large Transit projects
  • Making project and staffing decisions and recommendations
  • Responsible for project and task budgets, department resources, and meeting contract deliverables within budget and on schedule
  • Monitor and ensure delivery schedule
  • Interface and negotiate with DB contractors and the client all aspects of project delivery including scope changes and other commercial and contractual matters

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering
  • 13 years of experience in project delivery
  • Transit and highway project management qualifications
  • Experience managing multi-year transportation projects/programs with a construction value greater than $200 Million
  • Must possess a valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in managing various types of transit projects including maintenance, upgrades, line extensions, fixed facility construction and modifications, and new transportation corridors
  • Working knowledge of railways and project delivery mechanisms including operations, maintenance, planning, environmental, preliminary and final design, construction management, design-build, alliancing, scheduling, estimating, and quality assurance/quality control
  • Knowledge and experience with various disciplines and assets including, but not limited to: permanent way, structures (above ground and tunnels), signaling, traction power, overhead wiring, communications, stations, passenger information systems, ticketing systems, security systems, train operations and control, noise and vibration mitigation, fire and life safety, rolling stock, electrical/mechanical equipment, and maintenance and storage facilities; experienced in public consultation programs and dealing in a public environment
  • Experienced in coordination with outside government agencies at all levels including local, state/provincial, regional, and national
