The Program
Here is your opportunity to work on the first ever high-speed rail program in the U.S. while growing your career on a groundbreaking project. The California High-Speed Rail program will connect the mega-regions of the state, contribute to economic development and a cleaner environment, create jobs and preserve agricultural and protected lands. By 2029, the system will run from San Francisco to the Los Angeles basin in under three hours at speeds of more than 200 miles per hour. The system will also extend to Sacramento and San Diego, totaling 800 miles with up to 24 stations.

The Role
The California High Speed Rail Authority has awarded WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff the Program Management role within the Rail Delivery Partners (RDP) program delivery team. As a result we have an immediate opportunity for a Communications Engineer to join the Rail Delivery Partner team of the California High-Speed Train Project. The position reports to the HSR Manager-Systems and overall responsibilities will include the development of criteria and specifications for Communications Systems and their integration with other technical requirements for the project. The work is primarily focused on the California High-Speed Train Project, but could also include other facility, light rail, heavy rail and commuter rail projects. The work location is the San Francisco PB office but could include short term travel to the project sites and/or other cities installing or planning to install rail transit systems. Key responsibilites are:

      • Deriving, developing and managing the requirements for communication systems.
      • Developing design criteria, design drawings and performance specifications for communications systems and associated rooms, sites, enclosures, pathways and cable infrastructure.
      • Conducting design reviews of communications systems and associated rooms, sites, enclosures, pathways and cable infrastructure.
      • Interfacing with other disciplines and resolving interface and coordination issues.

Job Requirements

The Requirements

      • At least fifteen years engineering experience with transit authorities, communications manufacturing or engineering firm, or equivalent designing systems including (but not necessarily all of) the following: wide and local area networks, PSIMs, time synchronization systems, electronic safety and security systems including electronic access control, intrusion detection, CCTV and fire alarm systems, telephone and intercom systems, public address and visual sign systems, equipment room design and layout.
      • Experience producing quality deliverables including design criteria, drawings and specifications. Writing and drawing samples required (sensitive information including client names and similar may be sanitized).
      • Experience with Systems Engineering processes and procedures applied to a multidisciplinary design environment that may include civil, geotechnical, structural, environmental, architectural, operations and maintenance and MEP.
      • Experience with radio systems and frequency spectrum acquisition
      • Experience in phases of the systems development life cycle, including analysis, design, implementation, commissioning, factory, field and acceptance testing.
      • Experience developing and managing formal Systems Engineering documentation including systems interface control documents and systems integration plans to ensure seamless interface and integration between communications and new and legacy disciplines and systems.
      • Ability to work in the USA immediately.
Education Required
      • A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Computer Engineering required. This requirement may be waived if exceptional experience is demonstrated.
      • BICSI RCDD, OSP, NTS/DCDC and/or ESS certification a plus
