WSP|Parsons Brinckerhoff is seeking an ITS Maintenance Contractor Inspector in Hauppauge, New York. The ITS Maintenance Contractor Inspector position requires much skill for a senior level contract enforcement task. The INFORM Transportation Management Center, (TMC) is the point of contact for the respective shift, and will be staffed 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. The Operations Supervisor shall be the point of contact during the selected candidates' respective shift. The selected candidate will be under supervision of the Project Manager.

At times, the ITS Maintenance Contractor Inspector will be required to work overtime to ensure the job tasks of the Transportation Management Center are fulfilled. The ITS Maintenance Contractor Inspector must have knowledge of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), knowledge of Port Authority facilities and surrounding transportation network, and to provide formal/informal instruction, as well, as written reports. Understand the principles, procedures, and techniques of incident and congestion management. The ITS Maintenance Contractor Inspector will at all times, interact with clients in a professional manner to ensure a good working relationship.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
      • The selected candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with the State contract technical specifications during field installations, repairs, and modifications, by the Field Maintenance Contractors at NYSDOT, Region 10
      • Read plans, implement and enforce Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) in accordance with current Manual of Uniform Control Devices (MUTCD)
      • Review and pre-approve payment for work orders
      • Prepare inspection reports including job description, equipment used, MPT furnished, hours of work, travel time, etc.
      • Tow, deploy, and program Portable Variable Message Signs (PVMS), using instruction manuals
      • Maintain INFORM's Equipment inventory at various storage facilities, organize storage facilities, receive equipment from various sources and provides updates on equipment needs
      • Inspect field equipment, routinely, to enforce maintenance contractor's requirements to maintain field equipment as per contract
      • Is able to be cross trained to perform all H.E.L.P. (Highway Emergency Local Patrol), Inspector tasks and TMC Operators' tasks
      • Responsible for ensuring that proper contacts are made and protocols are followed
      • Keep current with Department held American Red Cross, AED/CPR, First Aid training

Job Requirements
Education Required:
      • High School Diploma or GED
      • Ability to read, write, and understand English
Experience/Skills Required:
      • A minimum of 7 years of experience
      • The ITS Maintenance Contractor Inspector must have excellent communication skills
      • The ability to cope with the complexity of varied work schedules for planned and unplanned events
      • Training in the use of computers, database, radio communication, and basic knowledge of various ITS equipment functions
      • Ability to use equipment manuals
      • Experience with basic plan reading
      • Must be dedicated and be able to perform daily job tasks under minimum supervision
      • Must have proven high quality of work
      • Must be practical and insistent
      • Must possess a valid, clean New York State driver's license/record, be able to drive in all weather conditions, and be able to drive a medium, Heavy Duty, 4X4 pick-up truck with a snow plow as needed
      • Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills
