This individual will work in the Fleet portion of Fleet & Facilities Division of WSP|Parsons Brinckerhoff, Inc. and will actively perform work related to transit bus procurement and maintenance support for our (predominantly) transit agency Clients. Duties include (but not limited to):

      • Travel to, and possible temporary relocation to, remote bus manufacturing facilities, primarily in the United States and Canada with some possible overseas.
      • On-line inspection and quality assurance of new buses as they are manufactured. First or second shift work at the bus plant. Active inspection of the buses as they are being constructed on the assembly line, including a final inspection phase. Active interface with the bus manufacturer staff and the Client managers. Development of a daily and subsequent weekly progress report.
      • Must be capable of defining, identifying and interpreting the bus manufacturer's drawing and prints, Quality Control directives, Quality Control production line changes and manufacturers product updates.
      • Must be capable of using Quality Control measuring tools and equipment during the bus production cycle.
      • Must be capable of developing a working relationship with the bus manufacturers Quality Control department.
      • Perform fleet assessments of Clients operational fleets, identifying and recording defects.
      • Assessment and recommendations for transit maintenance management organizations, including general program, software systems, inventory analysis, and training.
      • Research and written report development for a variety of services, including assessments, alternative fuels, vehicle and equipment procurement, job placement services, and other technical-related tasks.
      • Must be physically capable of bending, stooping, lifting up to 30 pounds, and capable of stepping in and out of vehicles/buses.
For individuals with experience and interest in transit bus procurement and maintenance related activities this can be a very challenging and rewarding position.

Job Requirements
Experience Required:

The individual for this position must have a minimum of seven (7) years experience in a position of transit bus maintenance activities, including actual hands-on mechanical repair and management. The best case is almost always someone who started as a mechanic. The individual must have the knowledge and capability to independently provide on-line inspection and quality assurance coverage of new bus manufacturing, as well as used bus assessments, under contracts with our Clients.

The individual must have competent report writing skills to document technical findings and convey the same to colleagues and Clients. Must be competent in the usage of Microsoft Office products for use in report development. He/she must have knowledge of the following industry agencies:
      • FTA
      • APTA
      • FMVSS - Federal Motor Vehicle System Safety
      • DOT - Department of Transportation
      • ADA - Americans with Disabilities

Education Required:

      • College education in Mechanical Engineering or other related engineering courses is always a plus
      • Education derived from technical training institutes is always positive
In the case of this position, higher education is desirable, and would be a plus, but will not be allowed as a substitution for the hands-on experience described above.

No specific certification is required, although certification in the bus aspects of ASE are a plus.

Must have a valid U.S. driver's license and passport and be capable of travel.

The selected candidate must have the ability to immediately work in the United States.
