The Lead Commercial Manager will be working on the 4LM project, a circa £800m scheme with London Underground to upgrade systems on the District, Hammersmith & City, Circle and Metropolitan lines which will allow LU to reduce journey times, increase numbers of trains per hour and increase the number of passengers carried on the network. This is currently the biggest urban rail signalling programme worldwide and is an exciting and complex challenge to deliver.

As the Lead Commercial Manager you will take direct responsibility for commercial matters through the delivery phases of both current and future projects. The role is central to the commercial success of the business, and as such the Lead Commercial Manager will be a proactive and integral member of the Thales Ground Transportation team, ensuring that the commercial objects of the business are achieved and initiatives for commercial procedures are recommended / implemented and adhered too.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks
  • To be an integral member of the 4LM commercial team, providing proactive direction and recommendations on key commercial strategies and identifying and managing contractual risks and opportunities within the post contract phase.
  • Developing and maintaining positive and collaborative professional relationships with the customer.
  • Proactively manage the Contractual baseline to identify, manage and mitigate business and project risks through a close working relationship with project team members and with the customer, and to lead the preparation of, and responses to, key Contract communications with the customer.
  • Respond to and manage variations to the contract baseline including adherence to governance procedures, and to provide significant support to the negotiations for Major Contract Changes.

  • Provide advice and recommendations to the projects under their remit and as directed by the Senior Commercial Manager on commercial issues, liabilities and opportunities.

  • Provide guidance on terms and conditions for the benefit of the broader project team and maintain awareness of best commercial practice

  • Provide support to senior management and where required participate in commercial negotiations with customer, consortium partners and in conjunction with Procurement, sub-contractors and other 3rd parties.

Skills & Experience
  • Significant post contract experience within major technically and contractually challenging programmes, being specifically able to demonstrate successful delivery
  • Previous experience within a technology driven project environment
  • Ability to engage & proactively manage various stakeholders (both internal & external)
  • Driving delivery of the commercial objectives as agreed with the business
  • Expert knowledge of general and specific contractual Terms & Conditions, specifically the post contract phase Experience of working with NEC 3 contracts and the railway industry is desirable but not necessary.
