Job Summary
The P3 Advisory Services group within the Transportation Division of AECOM is actively seeking a Manager, Transit and Rail Systems to provide strategic and day-to-day oversight and support to the growth and development of AECOM's practice in the transit and rail market in Ontario. You will primarily be responsible for several aspects of the practice including technical and commercial leadership and service delivery. You will take leadership in some area of the business for business development, customer relationships, people management, project delivery and financial performance. In addition, alongside existing senior staff, you will also have a key role in supporting the sustaining growth and delivery of services in the P3/AFP advisory space and the P3/AFP bid side space in Ontario. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Take a lead role in the technical and commercial leadership of transit and rail systems engineering services in all forms of delivery (traditional, design-build, P3 advisory, and P3 bid side) services in Ontario and potentially the rest of Canada
  • Contribute to strategic planning of short and long term direction of the systems engineering practice
  • Undertake selected lead roles on identified mega- and key transit and rail projects and key client accounts, acting as direct interface with Client and key stakeholders on systems-related matters
  • Provide quality assurance of ongoing projects, reports, bid submissions and products
  • Managing budgets and AECOM inputs (along with any sub-consultants) on a regular basis and internally reporting on progress
  • Actively seek out service opportunities in line with the business strategy
  • Support the bid development processes by managing technical proposals and providing written technical inputs as necessary
  • Collaborate with technical and professional staff across the company in completing assignments (either as task lead or as support to others)
  • Lead and mentor intermediate and junior systems engineering staff
  • Be a visible leader and role model by demonstrating and promoting AECOM's values both internally and externally

Minimum Requirements
  • Engineering Degree or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • 13 years of relevant experience
  • P. Eng. in Ontario
  • Broad knowledge and experience in all aspects of transit and rail systems engineering including systems integration, signals, train control and operation, SCADA, traction power, electrification, overhead catenary systems, voice/data communications, rail safety and security, fare collection, systems testing and commissioning services
  • Experience in Configuration Management
  • A good understanding of the P3/AFP models and experience in delivery of schemes in this market
  • Previous role in a senior management or technical role within an P3/AFP advisory team or P3/AFP bid side team
  • Multi-disciplinary engineering and construction experience, focused on railway, commuter, and transit projects
  • Experience as the Engineering Manager and/or Project Manager on a large (>$100-million) projects
  • Familiar and generally proficient with project management process
  • Experience with business and contractual agreements
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills in complex and changing environments
  • Ability to work independently, strong negotiating, problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Skilled in technical writing and delivering presentations to clients, operators, and regulators
  • Must possess a valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working for both agency and major contractor
  • Existing client/working relationships with Metrolinx and other GTA transit providers
  • P3/AFP owner's side or bid side experience
  • Keen interest in business development and key client/account management
