Engineers will support efforts in one of the three areas: Shock and Vibration Qualification, R&D testing and evaluation, or bolted joints of component and system designs. Assignments will directly support LOS ANGELES, OHIO, SEAWOLF, VIRGINIA and OHIO Replacement Classes of Submarines. Positions require constant interface with Engineering and shipyard personnel, vendors and the Navy as related to the work. The Shock and Vibration Qualification group provides technical support in the execution and coordination of actions required to accomplish equipment shock and vibration qualification for all submarine programs. R&D testing and evaluation performs off-ship testing of proto-type components, material and systems in order to qualify these items for shipboard service or for technical information for design development. The fastener group provides technical support for the design of bolted connects and the use of fastener materials to meet component and system requirements.|
Responsibilities will include the following: provide technical guidance, perform standard mechanical stress calculations and design comparisons to demonstrate that equipment meets specification and technical requirements, perform bolted joint calculations, explore new fastener technologies, evaluate fastener manufacturing non-conformances, review drawings, test procedures and test reports and provide test support at Electric Boat and vendor facilities. Test engineers will be responsible for the design of test stands and directly working with the trades during fabrication, assembly and test conduct. Expect assignment to large-scale or complex tests and to provide assistance to less experienced staff.
