Employees in this position will perform hydrodynamic analyses of all classes of submarine. Analyses typically performed include:|
• Hydrodynamic loading on external (flow-exposed) structure
• Maneuvering analysis
• Hull & control surface shaping
• Whole boat resistance
Analyses are based both on analytical methods and leveraging (but not generating) model scale test data, computational fluid dynamic (CFD) data, and simulation data. The position requires frequent collaboration with internal stakeholders, such as the CFD and Structural Analysis groups. It also requires frequent interaction with external customers and Navy Labs. As such, some business travel is required.
The Hydrodynamics Group is part of Electric Boats Naval Architecture Department (D496). D496 is responsible for determining the hydrostatic and hydrodynamic characteristics of submarines and providing waterfront hydrostatics support.
