About the Business Line
AECOM's Global Support Services (GSS) organization resides within AECOM's Government business line and is comprised of three divisions - International Development, Operations and Mission Support, and Global Programs. GSS has the international presence, personnel networks and procurement infrastructure to deliver support for any mission, anywhere. We optimize the reliability, availability and sustainability of equipment, logistics systems and facilities for clients around the world. GSS supports the U.S. Government, non-U.S. Governments and industry clients with worldwide program management, planning, design, operations and maintenance, logistics, aviation services, security, international development, environmental and civil engineering and mission and intelligence support.

Job Summary
The Access Control Specialist carries out detailed instructions and procedures primarily oriented to ensure that emergencies and security violations are readily discovered and reported to appropriate authorities.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Monitor and control access of employees and visitors in and out of restricted areas by ensuring positive personnel identification
  • Ensure prohibited and restricted items are not brought into or leave the building
  • Interact with and assist employees and visitors with directions to various locations and provide other customer service functions
  • Observe and report security and emergency/safety situations to appropriate company or government officials.
  • Intervene directly only in situations which require minimal action to safeguard property or persons.
  • Utilize computers to access and update information
  • May use equipment to produce and issue identification cards
  • May operate metal detectors or other detection equipment
  • May monitor closed circuit television systems, intrusion detection or fire alarm systems, and notify response personnel as necessary
  • Participate in periodic training activities
  • Position may require local travel (within 25 mile radius)
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • May require valid driver's license
  • Read, speak, and understand English language fluently
  • Ability to prepare detailed written reports and fill out forms
  • Ability to make independent decisions in a quick and decisive manner using good judgement
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and government personnel
  • Impeccable customer service and communication skills
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment and periodic testing, including a physical examination, medical and drug screening, testing for reading and comprehension,
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance

Health and Physical Fitness Requirements:
  • Possess binocular vision correctable to 20/20 (Snellen) and close vision correctable to Saieger No. 4 type test for both eyes
  • Free of color blindness
  • Have normal fields of vision and good depth perception, as defined by the Snellen chart
  • Good general health without conditions which would interfere with the performance of duties
  • Have hearing which is correctable to normal level hearing with hearing aids. Normal hearing levels are demonstrated by a pure tone audiometry hearing level (HL) of 0 decibels (dB) or lower

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
  • Work environment: Typical office or other temperature-controlled building with no unusual hazards.
  • Physical demands:
  • Occasional lifting to 20 pounds
  • Must have agility to move about to observe and interact with people in the immediate area
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time while using a computer terminal
  • Use of sight abilities while observing activity in the building or reviewing documents
  • Use of speech/hearing abilities to interact with people in person and by phone.
  • Mental demands: constant mental alertness to observe activity during both exceptionally busy times and also during periods of inactivity or late night hours. Must possess planning/organizing abilities, and must be able to work under deadlines.

Safety - AECOM enforces a safety culture whereby all employees have the responsibility for continuously developing and maintaining a safe work environment. As appropriate, each employee is responsible for completing all training requirements and fulfilling all self-aid/buddy aid responsibilities, participating in emergency response tasks and serving on safety committees and teams.
