About the Business Line
Our team of environment specialists offers clients expertise in air quality, impact analysis and permitting, environmental health and safety management consulting/due diligence, remediation consulting/engineering and construction/site restoration, specialty and emerging technologies, waste services and water and natural resources.

Job Summary
AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Senior Certified Industrial Hygienist for immediate employment for the Seattle, WA office to provide IH program support to Navy commands/activities in the Pacific Northwest. The successful candidate will be responsible for moderately complex technical work in a wide range of the health, safety and environment (HSE) disciplines, to achieve compliance with health and safety consensus standards, along with federal and state regulatory requirements.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:
  • Evaluate existing engineering controls and personal protective equipment to recommend solutions to minimize worker exposure
  • Conduct initial IH walk-through surveys in industrial shop areas
  • Develop prioritized sampling and analysis plan based on observed health hazards
  • Conduct routine and non-routine IH-related sampling with requisite calibrated equipment for a variety of air contaminants
  • Conduct noise, ventilation and IAQ monitoring
  • Write reports summarizing the results of sampling activities
  • Develop and conduct basic shop-level training &/or sample results presentation
  • Participate in large, specialized, complex project or multiple projects
  • Conduct IAQ investigations
  • Implement policies and procedures to assure awareness of and compliance with health and safety requirements of Puget Sound Naval Shipyard (PSNS), Naval Base Kitsap (NBK) and Naval Station Everett, as well as AECOM
  • Draft necessary reports in support of US Navy contract work
  • Conduct US Navy Exposure Monitoring Program tasks
  • May develop, implement and maintain health and safety programs, systems and procedures
  • May develop and conduct employee field /industrial safety and emergency preparedness training

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 8 years of relevant experience
  • Must be a CIH in good standing with the board certified by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH)
  • Be current with existing and proposed changes in US occupational health and safety regulations
  • Ability to work directly with clients, understand their expectations and meet project requirements
  • Regarded as technically competent in diverse subjects typically encountered in Industrial Hygiene (i.e. ventilation assessment, biostatistics, toxicology, radiation)
  • Solid experience working with IH equipment in the field and mentoring junior IH/IH techs
  • Experience that demonstrates solid background in industrial hygiene concepts, principles, and practices to evaluate physical and chemical hazards such as noise, ionizing, and non-ionizing radiation, ventilation, VOCs, metal fumes
  • Ability to utilize and calibrate industrial hygiene measurement equipment such as personal sampling pumps, anemometers, vibration analyzers and IAQ monitors to evaluate chemical/physical stresses
  • Possess thorough worksite hazard assessment and documentation skills coupled with solid technical writing ability
  • Ability carry out routine and non-routine IH surveys
  • U.S. Citizenship required along with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Common Access Card (CAC)
  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test and be able to obtain a secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience with large US Government entities would be useful
  • Familiarity with or ability to learn quickly the US Navy Command structure and affiliated work elements
  • Previous clearance / CAC obtained
  • Master's Degree a plus
