Job Summary
AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Senior Pipeline Design Engineer to join our Infrastructure group in the Columbia, SC office. The selected individual will become an integral part of the design team, working on projects such as natural gas pipelines, water, wastewater, transportation, transit, airport, and local municipal improvement projects. The Columbia design team works closely with a number of regional offices, supporting local and regional projects. This position affords the ability to make an important and meaningful contribution to our projects and our clients. The role will provide the opportunity for skill development in many aspects of the profession, as well as opportunities for increased responsibility, challenges and project management.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Providing design support of ongoing projects, while potentially supporting other ongoing efforts for the design of utilities, site-civil, roadway, and transit projects
  • Utility design tasks will include support of all design phases of site specific water, wastewater and transportation projects for municipalities and federal clients, but will also include storm drainage design of independent site utility projects and project permitting
  • Construction phase services may also be included in the work efforts
  • Work will be performed either alone or as part of a team, but will most likely require coordination and interaction with both a larger AECOM team and the client - For this position, it is expected that the applicant can perform work with minimal direction from the Project Manager and/or senior team members, providing complete engineering assignment deliverables of varying complexity within an defined fee and schedule
  • Preparation of project reports, drawings and calculations, design of various project elements for inclusion in the final project deliverables, direct client coordination, and coordinating with public utility companies, private utilities, and sub consultants
  • Stay current with changing local, regional, and national requirements for storm water runoff and detention requirements, and apply the findings of that research to ongoing projects
  • Interact with multi-discipline and multi-office teams within AECOM, as well as with clients and various regulatory agencies
  • Responsibilities will also eventually include guiding one more junior engineer on future projects

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in l engineering or appropriate discipline from an accredited school, with a focus in natural gas pipelines, or civil/site engineering. Preference for transmission pipeline and piping facilities and FERC Pipeline project experience
  • 10 years of professional engineering experience, with a minimum of three years' experience in pipeline & utilities design and engineering
  • Professional Engineering License, or the ability to obtain a license within 1 year of hire
  • Ability to work independently on projects and perform gas transmission pipeline design, produce supporting calculations, produce engineering reports, develop drawing packages specific to midstream gas pipelines
  • Experience in the use of engineering and drafting software including Autodesk Civil 3D and other pipeline engineering software
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with design engineers and managers for the preparation of high quality drawings
  • Excellent time management skills, strong work ethics, show attention to details, and most importantly, a strong desire to learn
  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test
