The Program
Here is your opportunity to work on the first ever high-speed rail program in the U.S. while growing your career on a groundbreaking project. The California High-Speed Rail program will connect the mega-regions of the state, contribute to economic development and a cleaner environment, create jobs and preserve agricultural and protected lands. By 2029, the system will run from San Francisco to the Los Angeles basin in under three hours at speeds of more than 200 miles per hour. The system will also extend to Sacramento and San Diego, totaling 800 miles with up to 24 stations.

The Role
The California High Speed Rail Authority has awarded WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff the Program Management role within the Rail Delivery Partners (RDP) program delivery team. As a result we have an immediate opportunity for a Senior Engineer, located at our project office in Los Angeles and reporting to the Southern California Regional Engineering group.

The role will suit those with a broad range of capabilities as tasks will be varied, including technical and task management matters. The position will provide a real opportunity to grow in a supportive environment. The principal duties of the Senior Engineer are:

      • Participate in the development and application of engineering concepts, standards and techniques for the new railway
      • Interface with RDP environmental, engineering, right-of-way and regional management teams to communicate information between them and the Authority
      • Participate in and coordinate the review of Regional Consultant conceptual and preliminary engineering submittals
      • Provide initial technical input and coordinating with subject-matter experts to address engineering issues
      • Participate in multidisciplinary workshops to resolve design application and interface issues
The position may include short term, in-state travel to support design and coordination activities.

Job Requirements
The Requirements
The role of Senior Engineer requires:
      • BSCE, California PE license or the ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity within six months
      • At least five years of experience in design and construction of rail transit, railroad, corridor or heavy civil projects
      • Experience in project planning and preliminary design of major infrastructure elements, including tunnels, bridges and viaducts, earthen structures, retaining walls, and trench structures
      • Familiarity with alignment design criteria on high speed rail or rail transit with ability to learn high speed rail criteria
      • Familiarity with design requirements and protocols for Caltrans, freight railroads, or local jurisdictions
      • Experience interfacing directly with clients, public agencies and consultants
      • Strong communication and teaming skills
      • Experience with design-build project delivery methods for large, complex infrastructure projects is desired
      • The ability to work in the United States immediately is required, local candidates preferred
