Laboratory Services is seeking a Chemistry Laboratory Technician to support submarine construction programs and to comply with city, state and federal regulatory requirements. This individual will be trained as an OSHA Competent Person, which entails classroom training along with on the job training for the atmospheric testing of confined spaces. The individual will also be trained to take environmental readings to support quality assurance aspects of submarine construction. This work can be physically demanding requiring the individual to carry sampling equipment throughout the shipyard and aboard submarines in all weather conditions. The individual must be capable of entering confined and enclosed spaces, able to climb ladders and stairs and able to work at heights.|
The candidate will be cross-trained in additional areas as needed which may include: environmental chemistry, metals analysis, oil and precision cleaning services, nuclear water chemistry and gas/ion chromatography, mass spectroscopy. Individuals with a B.S. degree in chemistry or a related science are desired.
