The EB Platform Systems Engineering department (D417) has an opening for 4 Systems Engineers to support the VIRGINIA Payload Module (VPM) program, the OHIO Replacement (OR) program, and other payload integration design programs.|
Systems Engineering plays an important role in each of these programs by driving cross-discipline technical integration and optimization across the submarine platform. Selected individuals may work new designs, such as OR, or efforts requiring successful insertion of a new design module/payload system into an existing host ship design, such as VPM. As program needs evolve, individuals will provide support for other programs beyond the one to which they are initially assigned.
Platform Systems Engineers work with numerous design and engineering disciplines, program offices, customers, and potentially with various industry partners to ensure ship designs are integrated, customer requirements are met, and to ensure a focus on robust integration throughout the platform. By their nature, Systems Engineering positions provide regular opportunity to interact with, and gain knowledge of, a variety of different disciplines and organizations at EB and within the Navy. Technical presentations and document development may be required, and will provide exposure to various levels of EB and Navy leadership. This environment provides opportunity to question and learn about a variety of areas across the enterprise.
The selected individuals will support the overall Systems Engineering effort in a variety of capacities. Specific assignments will be based on professional experience, work style, and career objectives. Responsibilities will evolve as program and department needs mature, and as the individuals knowledge and familiarity of Systems Engineering increases. Areas of responsibility may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Leading system CONOP and functionality assessments
• Facilitating requirements management across disciplines
• Facilitating interface identification across disciplines
• Assisting in the development of an integrated test plan
• Coordinating integrated technical operating instructions and manuals
• Identifying technical risks and developing mitigation strategies
• Defining Systems Engineering processes for Electric Boat design programs
