About the Business Line
We create comprehensive delivery solutions for water, wastewater and wet weather systems, desalination, water resources, water reuse, tunneling, and community infrastructure through traditional and alternative delivery services such as program management and design-build.

Job Summary
As a part of our continued growth, our Burnaby office has an outstanding opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to support the design and construction of complex water /wastewater treatment facilities including wastewater treatment plants and water/wastewater pumping stations. You will work in a team environment with intermediate and senior engineers to deliver advanced wastewater treatment and large pumping station projects to our client base both here in British Columbia and in Western Canada.

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
  • Designing mechanical and plumbing systems including: HVAC, domestic water, storm, sanitary/vent and natural gas systems using Canadian standards
  • Assisting in the preparation of deliverables and products such as: presentation materials, calculations, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates; related to heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) and plumbing systems for commercial, institutional and light industrial facilities
  • Performing field investigations for incorporation of existing conditions into construction documents
  • Performing construction administration duties, such as: shop drawing review, RFI response, construction inspection, and respond to client questions
  • Working within a project team environment and possessing good presentation and client interface skills
  • Coordinating work with other project disciplines
  • Working independently and making technical mechanical decisions based on building code interpretation and company standard practice
  • Demonstrating creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in anticipating and solving both routine and unusual project delivery, technical and client challenges, determining technical objectives and requirements, organizing programs and projects, and developing standards and guides for technical activities and applications
  • Staying up to date on industry standards and approaches and implementing best practices
  • Ensuring project work is undertaken in accordance with corporate health and safety policies and quality management systems
  • Performing assignments of limited scope and complexity; using a variety of standard engineering methods and techniques in solving problems
  • Applying standard practices and techniques in specific situations
  • Gathering and correlating basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures
  • Exercising judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives.

Minimum Requirements
  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer or Engineer in Training in British Columbia
  • 2 years of experience with an engineering firm, designing HVAC and plumbing commercial, institutional and light industrial facilities, or related experience
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Working experience with NBC, BCBC, BC Plumbing Code and ASHRAE codes and standards
  • Experience using HAP, AutoCAD, REVIT, Microsoft Office tools including Excel, Word, Project and Power Point
  • Ability to conduct field inspections
  • Familiar with code-required sizing techniques, current construction materials and methods, and federal and provincial codes
  • Must possess a valid BC Class V Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience delivering water and wastewater infrastructure projects
  • Familiarity with ISO quality management systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • LEED AP and ASHRAE membership is recommended
