The services of Hays have been retained by our client, a large public sector body based in Belfast, to recruit a Quantity Surveyor on a temporary contract basis. This position will initially run for a period of approximately 6 months, with the possibility of further extension.
Your new role
You will be responsible for the provision of Professional Quantity Surveying services associated with a wide range of minor works, refurbishment and new build construction projects. This may involve work associated with office accommodation, college/teaching facilities, historic buildings, museums, tourist facilities, workshops, laboratories, factories, storage facilities, amenity facilities, business/industrial units, sport facilities, site/park/estate roadways, harbour or other maritime developments, landscaping and regeneration schemes.
Your main activities will include:-
Project management of projects;
Preparation of costs estimates including appropriate risk allowance;
Preparation of NEC3 contracts and their administration including call-offs from framework agreements;
Participation in value management and value engineering exercises to review options on a Whole Life Costs basis;
Preparation of detailed cost plans and cash flow programmes;
Settlement of final accounts;
Advising on grant funded projects;
Preparation of monthly cost reports to clients;
Tender analysis and preparation of reports;
Leading value engineering reviews to improve build ability and reduce whole-life costs;
Valuation of works including adjustment for Compensation Events;
Advising clients on any outstanding claims, counterclaims, liquidated damages or other contractual issues.
What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this position you must be able to demonstrate a track record of working as a Quantity Surveyor, ideally in a practice / PQS environment or for a public sector body. As such, you will have experience in the implementation of MTC and NEC3 contracts. You must possess a Higher BTEC or HNC/D in a construction related subject. Our client also require the successful applicant to process a Standard Access NI check.
