Nuclear Waterfront Structural Engineering (Department 412) is the lead design and engineering organization for structures, arrangements and shielding for VIRGINIA Class submarine propulsion plants.|
Provides design yard support for new construction activities at EB (Groton, CT and Quonset Point, RI facilities) and Newport News, VA.
Develops technical work documents, conducts trade briefings and mock-up training in preparation for nuclear work, and provides deck plate support during accomplishment of nuclear work.
Using a design build approach and working in a team environment, engineers also develop innovative solutions to solve new construction and commissioned ship problems.
Incorporate new designs or advanced technologies in the propulsion plant structures and shielding areas.
Regularly interface with designers, shipyard personnel and our Navy customers.
Responsibilities include technical analyses, procedure development, design integration, construction support, material and component selection. Positions require constant interface with engineering, design and shipyard personnel, shipyard and engineering management, Naval personnel, prime contractor technical personnel, purchasing and other EB personnel. Engineers will be required to provide onboard deck plate support of commissioned and new construction submarines.
