WHE Equipment Operator (Contingency Hire)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : The Weight Handling Equipment Inspection and Test Specialist shall be qualified and technically competent in Weight Handling Equipment (WHE) Material Handling Equipment (MHE), and Ordnance Handling (OHE) operation and maintenance procedures. The primary duties of the position are to inspect, test, and certify all WHE, and MHE at least annually and after any adjustment, repair, replacement, or alteration/modification of a load bearing or load controlling part in accordance with NAVFAC P-300, NAVFAC P-307, NAVSUP 538, NAVSEA OP-5, NAVFACFEINST 11260.1G or most current and the equipment manufacturer's instructions and manuals; develop and submit test procedures and schedules for review and approval, development and issuance of
crane test reports; and continuous updates to crane equipment history file.

  • EDUCATION: High school or GED diploma
    • NAVFAC P-300; NAVFAC P-307; 29 CFR, Chapter XVII, Part 1910 and OSHA requirements
    • NAVSEA OP-5, Chapters 8 and 10
  • EXPERIENCE; Three (3) years of specialized experience performing inspections, tests, operation and maintenance on equipment capable of loads up to 75,000 lbs.
  • ABILITIES: The candidate must be a self-starter capable of working in a fast paced multi-discipline team environment with the ability to manage competing priorities to achieve team goals. Proven management skills to include effective planning, organizing, directing and controlling with strong decision making capabilities. Excellent analytical skills - data driven, fact based, root cause focused. Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills to lead a team to consensus. Understanding of litigation and claims processes and experience with legal communities. Excellent communication skills - verbal, written and listening. Ability to interact with staff at all levels from craftpersons to senior executives. Knowledge base to successfully diagnosis issues that cover multiple areas of interaction.

  • Fluent in English language
  • Must possess passport book (not passport card) with at least 12 months of remaining validity AND with at least 6 blank visa/stamp pages remaining
  • Must possess driver's license with at least 6 months of remaining validity
