About the Business Line
Our team of environment specialists offers clients expertise in air quality, impact analysis and permitting, environmental health and safety management consulting/due diligence, remediation consulting/engineering and construction/site restoration, specialty and emerging technologies, waste services and water and natural resources.
AECOM is seeking a Senior Archaeologist to join our established heritage team in our multi-disciplinary office of environmental and engineering consultants in Birmingham.
AECOM's heritage team is a Registered Organisation with the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists and comprises 20 staff based across the UK. We provide our clients with a full range of heritage services including feasibility studies, desk-based assessment, assessments of significance and setting, environmental impact assessment, heritage consents, fieldwork design and site management and monitoring.
Our projects include high profile major transport and infrastructure schemes, heritage-led regeneration and other private and public sector developments.
As well as the opportunity to be involved in some of the highest profile development projects in the UK, you would be regularly working on a range of archaeological projects including the potential for occasional international work.
The post will entail:
Working as part of the heritage team on multi-disciplinary projects
Preparing desk-based assessments, deposit models, statements of significance and analysis of setting
Preparing archaeological impact assessments, contributing to master planning and scheme design
Undertaking heritage appraisals, contributing to environmental impact assessments and designing schemes of mitigation carrying out statutory consultations
Undertaking detailed site walk-over surveys
working with engineers and designers to inform mitigation strategies
Working independently and taking responsibility for programmes of work , conducted safely, and producing high quality reports
Liaising effectively with managers, consultants from other disciplines and other stakeholders as required.
To be successful in this role we are looking for the following:
Client focused team player with a positive attitude;
Professional, organised and thorough approach to work which demonstrates an attention to detail to get things right first time;
Ability to manage own time and comfortable working both within a team or alone to tight deadlines;
Detailed knowledge of UK heritage legislation and policy;
Detailed knowledge of UK archaeology across a range of periods and site types;
Experience in managing large-scale fieldwork projects
Experience of undertaking archaeological assessment work;
Experience in costing and project management;
Expert witness experience (desirable);
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written;
Full UK driving licence;
Flexible approach to working hours to meet the demands of the role, including occasional working away from home.
Candidates will have:
A relevant first degree and/or post-graduate qualification in archaeology or a related subject;
Appropriate level of membership of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists
