Our Client has an opportunity for an experienced systems engineer with significant vehicle expertise to deliver the role of Systems Design Engineer in support of their Vehicles Optronics and Sensors business area.|
We invite talented Design Engineers, who can apply their knowledge and skills in an innovative system engineering design role to join a team passionate about developing products for a safer world.
The role will be based in Glasgow but may be required to work at other locations. Depending on the specific projects the role may require periods of time to be spent at Customer sites and/or integration facilities.
The role holder reports to the Systems Engineering Discipline Manager and will be allocated primarily to projects in the Vehicles Optronics and Sensors Business area. The role holder will be required to develop excellent working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders and team members. Principal relationships will be with:
Project Delivery Team - Programme Manager, System Engineering Manager, Appropriate engineering Disciplines - Systems, Software, Electrical & Electronic, Hardware.

Defining and preparing system and subsystem requirement specifications, ensuring design, interface and test feasibility through detailed analysis, simulation and decomposition modelling
Using a variety of toolsets to convert requirements into conceptual designs, both by creating new concepts and modifying existing ones
Thoroughly preparing design documentation by performing operational analysis, simulations and technical trade-off studies to evaluate alternative design configurations and functional features
Working collaboratively with internal and external teams to meet deadlines whilst ensuring the quality of the work packages and processes that fall within your remit
Working on your own initiative to investigate and resolve problems at your desk and in the field
Keeping up to date with the latest technical developments within Thales and the wider engineering sector.
Practical experience of delivering in a systems engineering environment,
A good understanding of the development lifecycle and associated products
Strong interpersonal and team working abilities, plus the credibility and communication skills to engage people at all levels
Proven ability to communicate at a range of levels and to put across complex technical issues to non technical stakeholders
Broad vehicle system design knowledge, supported with expert level knowledge in specific areas
Strong system engineering background
Confident in dealing with a wide range of both internal and external stakeholders
Military vehicle system design
Working knowledge of MOD open systems initiatives in the Land arena, e.g. GVA, LOSA
Knowledge and experience of open electronic architectures
Experience in the wider land system arena - e.g. soldiers, bases
Experience in UK MOD HFI, Safety etc
Successful delivery of a senior technical leadership role, Principle/Senior Engineer (or equivalent), on vehicle / vehicle mission system programmes - either military or civil
Proven broad knowledge of and experience in architecting vehicle based systems including the coordination of the relevant vehicle disciplines (e.g. human factors, safety, electrical, electronic, software, systems, mechanical, automotive etc)
Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of vehicle engineering disciplines & the interactions necessary to design, develop, qualify & certify a vehicle based system
Experience of designing, developing, integrating & qualifying military vehicle system and successful identification & resolution of specific technical issues in a military environment
Strong, broad understanding & experience of the typical mission equipments fitted to military vehicles
Working knowledge of UK MOD & their processes from a technical / engineering perspective in particular the application of specific Def Stans to military vehicle systems.
