About the Business Line
Building Engineering
We deliver creative solutions for building projects for industry, government, commercial and leisure sectors. Our building engineering specialists have expertise in structural and building services engineering, fire engineering, acoustics, facades and seismic design. Job Summary
The Building and Places Department is looking for a motivated, talented Mechanical Engineer for immediate employment in the 125 Broad Street, New York, New York office.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Execute complete, accurate and coordinated project design assignments on time and within budget
  • Interact and communicate effectively with other team members and disciplines
  • Independently evaluate, select and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria, using judgment in making adaptations and modifications
  • Perform responsible and varied engineering assignments requiring general familiarity with a broad field of engineering and knowledge of reciprocal effects of the work upon other disciplines
  • Independently perform all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works
  • Solve problems by use of combinations of standard procedures, modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments
  • Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position
  • Receive general instructions on specific assignment objectives, complex features, and possible solutions
  • Assistance is provided on unusual problems and work is reviewed for application of sound professional judgment
  • Responsible for collaboration and communication with project managers and discipline manager

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5 years of experience
  • Licensed Professional Engineer
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of Mechanical/HVAC systems for commercial, Government and transportation facilities including office tenant space, utilities and support facilities, K-12 schools
  • Perform building heating/cooling load calculations, size and select equipment, design HVAC systems (hydronic and air side), create building automation control diagrams, prepare sequence of operations, write specifications; this includes an understanding of pressure drop calculation methods and cost estimation
  • Maintain current knowledge in codes and standards particularly New York City Codes and International Building Codes
  • Use of engineering production software including AutoCAD, Revit, MS Office, Carrier HAP, etc.
  • Understand overall project constraints including design budget limitations and schedule requirements
  • Capable of directing, guiding, and quality review of one or more junior engineers or designers

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the design of school facilities
  • Experience with USACE projects
  • Experience in the design of transportation related facilities
  • Sustainability, resiliency and/or climate adaptation experience
