Job Summary

Our Social Market Research Department is looking to recruit an Apprentice to support them in the Birmingham office. You will be organised and a confident communicator willing to undertake a range of tasks to support the Project Manager in delivering high quality data, on time to specification.

This is a great opportunity for a student to receive on-the-job training, within a multi-national, dynamic and fast moving corporate environment, whilst continuing part time studies (approx. one day per week, depending on the provider) at a recognised college in order to hone academic skills (ensuring real opportunities for personal growth and career progression). Successful applicants will continually develop their social research skills (qualitative and quantitative) whilst being allocated a senior member of the team who will provide mentoring during the development period (typically over three years). Your study will be funded - whilst you earn an income as a permanent employee of AECOM.

This an immediate fill role with a view to enrolling on the identified course Sept 2016.

Applicants must be willing to progress their career by undertaking a day release course at a Further Education college to study a relevant qualification (likely to be a BTEC level 3 Business and Marketing at University College London) where the opportunity may exist to obtain professional membership of a relevant Institution.

Starting as Market Research Apprentice you will be assisting the Social Research team with fieldwork, data entry, analysis and reporting. Working on a variety of projects both qualitative and quantitative, you will gain knowledge, skills and expertise. The role provides a solid grounding in market research allowing you to develop into a versatile researcher.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To assist with the administration of fieldwork projects; despatching work and monitoring return rates and targets and booking venues when necessary
  • Working with the Project Manager to ensure that all the required quality and risk records for each project are adhered to and maintained
  • Liaising with interviewers and supervisors
  • Arranging for data entry and monitoring returns
  • Coding and cleaning data
  • Assisting with the preparation and checking of on-line surveys; writing scripts in SNAP and labelling data in SPSS
  • Assisting with the development of AECOM's electronic data capture capability
  • Analysing data and generating reports
  • Supporting all elements of focus groups

You will combine work-based on-the-job training and learning with further studies and must be willing to progress your career. After an initial probationary period you must be willing to undertake a day release course at a Further Education College to study a BTEC Level 3 or HND in a relevant discipline which would be funded by AECOM. Your NVQ Level 3 will be achieved during this time through your work experience.

Driven by the successful completion of BTEC Level 3 or a HNC the successful applicant may want to continue their studies at a higher level. AECOM fully expects this and is keen to develop and nurture its talent. For those wishing to progress their education AECOM may continue to support individuals through an appropriate part-time BA degree course or Market Research Society qualifications such as a diploma.

As a Trainee Market Researcher you will have the opportunity to work with senior members of the team on a wide range of project types at various stages.

Right from day one, you will be given the opportunity to get stuck in to some important and challenging projects. Working at AECOM means every day is different and you will be required to use your skills and knowledge to assist in solving problems and providing input in to our projects.

Minimum Requirements
No previous work experience is necessary but the position is ideally suited to recent school/college leavers who meet the following requirements:

  • At least 3 GCSE grade C in English, Maths and ICT;
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills; a confident communicator
  • An organised and systematic approach to problem solving;
  • Strong attention to detail - taking personal pride and responsibility for all aspects within your control;
  • Confident
  • Motivated to achieve a career in market research;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Knowledge of SNAP and SPSS would be a plus but not essential as full training will be provided;
  • Ability to work in a team and meet deadlines;
  • Good time management - Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
