Department 425, Electrical Systems Software Engineering, engineers apply software and computer engineering skills to specify, design, develop, integrate, and test, as well as subcontract manage software development for US Navy Nuclear Submarines. Collaborating with systems and hardware engineers, submarine software is developed and maintained for a great variety of submarine platforms and electrical systems for the propulsion and electric plant, as well as HM&E systems. Knowledge of the software development lifecycle is required for this position. Related responsibilities include software research and development, preparing presentations, participating in customer design reviews and interfacing closely with hardware and system engineering departments.
Specific responsibilities within the propulsion and electric plant include;
• development of shipboard software applications and data acquisition system functionally used for monitoring, controlling and logging of ship systems
• cybersecurity and platform information technology analyses and security control implementation for propulsion and electric plant ship systems
• design, implementation and maintenance of sensitive unclassified and classified computing systems in accordance with appropriate Naval Reactors and Defense Security Service security controls
