Purpose of Role
To plan and carry out assessment against National Occupational Standards, on Work Based Learning/Workforce Development programmes as part of the team in a given area or region work-based NVQ candidate, ensuring timely achievement of qualifications

Principal Accountabilities
• Be fully conversant with and rigorously apply National Occupational Standards for the NVQs being assessed, and maintain up to date knowledge of changes to all relevant competency based qualifications;
• Prepare, agree and review all required assessment plans with each candidate. Create and maintain learner portfolios in line with agreed standards and ensure they are made available for inspection at all times;
• Visit/contact all learners on work experience to undertake assessments in line with an agreed assessment plan, update and amend the assessment plan after every visit;
• Undertake assessments by direct observation of the candidates’ practice as specified by the Evidence Requirements;
• Provide regular, meaningful and legible feedback to all candidates in relation to performance and progression/achievement of targets;
• Accurately judge the validity, authenticity and sufficiency of all evidence used to inform candidate competence in line with competency criteria;
• Gather and authenticate work-based evidence to effectively inform competency judgements and assessment outcomes;
• Liaise with instructors/assessors/internal verifiers in respect of communicating and understanding learner targets, actions and progression;
• Prepare evidence for inspection by the External Verifier and meet when required;
• Support and mentor apprentices to ensure each achieves their maximum potential and that the apprentice’s well-being is prioritised at all times;
• Safeguard apprentices’ interests at all times, actively promoting and re-enforcing equality and diversity within the workplace and reporting concerns promptly;
• Carry out health and safety/learner progress reviews to ensure that standards are maintained and understood;
• Maintain relationships and standards with existing WEP’s conducting regular checks supported by documentary evidence;
• Communicate identified breaches of the WEP agreement or any other standards to their Line Manager for action to be taken as appropriate;
• Make appropriate effort to ensure site placement retention;
• Attend scenes of minor on site accidents and incidents and investigate as appropriate;
• Support investigators of more serious accidents and incidents and those with potential to be more serious;
• Prepare materials for and attend termly standardisation meetings.
• Maintain administration of documents and records (electronic and hard copy) as required by relevant procedures.

Additional Role Information
Undertaking pre-placement inductions with each apprentice before they go to site; Completing a Placement Suitability Assessment (PSA) and other required checks for all prospective WEPs and reviewing PSAs of existing WEPs in accordance with the frequency identified in the relevant procedures;
Ensuring all apprentices are fully placed with a work provider in order to achieve their NVQ in an optimal timeframe;
