Today that is represented in our key role delivering the Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carrier and our provision of advanced radio equipment to all of the Royal Navy’s surface combatants.

We are currently looking to recruit a Combat Systems Engineer to join the Systems Engineering team at Cheadle Heath to carry out Systems Engineering activities on Submarine, Surface Ships and Airborne Sonar and Command and Control systems. This role will focus on all aspects of the life cycle excluding testing.

Key Responsibilities:

The role may include, but not be limited to the following activities:

  • System definition activities – requirements definition, functional and physical definitions
  • Preparation and presentation of system level design reviews
  • Monitoring of emerging detailed design within various implementation teams – acoustic, hardware, mechanical, software etc
  • IVVQ planning and execution, including platform trials from time-to-time
  • Requirements sell-off and contract acceptance with customer
  • Customer and end-user liaison
  • Analysis of system performance
  • Alignment of Product vs Project
Qualifications, Experience and Skills:


  • Bachelors Degree level, or equivalent, in engineering or relevant scientific discipline.
  • Demonstrable systems engineering experience
  • Interest in the Defence sector
  • Good ‘A’ levels, or equivalent, in Maths and Physics
  • Strong analytical abilities with a methodical approach


  • DOORS practitioner
  • Working knowledge of architecture frameworks
  • System modelling skills (with either Rhapsody, Enterprise Architect or similar tool)
  • Familiarity with SCRUM methodology
