Building Engineering
We deliver creative solutions for building projects for industry, government, commercial and leisure sectors. Our building engineering specialists have expertise in structural and building services engineering, fire engineering, acoustics, facades and seismic design. We embed sustainability principles in every design.

Job Summary
Due to continued growth, AECOM has an opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our established Building and Places team in Washington, DC. The successful candidate will provide technical competence in mechanical engineering to our current and future projects and demonstrate a suitable blend and balance of technical and non-technical responsibilities including project management, technical leadership and staff management.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Working closely with other discipline engineers, architects, designers and project managers as a key team player within an integrated multi-disciplinary project delivery team
  • Ensuring accuracy, completeness and quality of technical information and project documentation in accordance with established QA/QC programs
  • Ensuring that engineering deliverables (i.e. drawings, specifications, reports) comply with applicable regulations, standards, corporate procedures and sound engineering practices
  • Ensuring projects on time and on budget with quality meeting client expectations
  • Contributing significantly to the successful design, production, coordination and management of projects
  • Communicating effectively with clients and internal team members in the design and specification development of mechanical building systems
  • Promoting mentor / mentee relationships through the engagement of various levels of staff

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 10 years of experience in building systems engineering
  • Licensed Professional Engineer
  • Working knowledge of applicable local and national building codes and common mechanical engineering software
  • Must have a well-rounded background in mechanical project design and delivery to meet various challenges
  • Background in building mechanical design (HVAC, plumbing, and Building Automation Systems)
  • Strong interpersonal communications skills
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team delivering various projects in complexity and size/scope
  • Willing to travel as required
  • Knowledge of green building practices and the LEED Rating System
  • Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required
  • Must possess a valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to obtain Government security clearance if requested (as evidenced by previously held security clearance) or current Government security clearance preferred.
  • LEED AP BD C credential
  • Experience with federal government projects and with health/life science projects
  • Familiarity with Unified Facility Criteria (UFC), Design-Build delivery method, and various market sectors including Federal Government and Healthcare
