General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for Deputy Program Manager Engineering (DPME) and Program Engineer (PE) Lead to join our team. The position provides an opportunity to develop the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's fundamental defense services. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed clients to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions. The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams to create and manage various General Dynamics Mission Systems and client technologies. Key Responsibilities
Deputy Program Manager Engineering (DPME) and Program Engineer (PE) Leads analyze, design, develop and test General Dynamics Mission Systems' systems to ensure the integration of software, hardware, reliability, maintainability, safety and other requirements in the total engineering effort. Other responsibilities include integration of Sonar, Fire Control and Imaging software onto COTS equipment; reading and debugging software; writing system scripts; troubleshooting hardware; maintaining Linux operating systems; writing basis of estimates; negotiating taskbooks; interacting with customers and maintaining an operational budget. These individuals may also be asked to document security on both new and fielded information systems or provide accreditation/certification evaluation and test support to ensure all technical security features are considered and functioning properly.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineering managers for allocation of engineering resources to project teams

  • Support the quarterly engineering employee evaluations via the quarterly check-in (QCI) process

  • Perform day to day management and leadership of multi-discipline engineering project teams throughout the entire development life cycle to ensure on-time delivery of fully compliant, quality products

  • Develop project schedules/budgets and execute and manage these project schedules/budgets per GDMS established development processes

  • Manage project teams to ensure product requirements, design to cost requirements and design for manufacturing requirements are fully met

  • Monitor project milestones and risks throughout the development cycle, and develop work-around options and risk mitigation strategies to ensure on-time completion of project schedules per established project budgets

  • Regularly report project status identifying current key project milestone status, budget tracking, risks and opportunities, as well as resource staffing

  • Travel when required

  • Travel to many US and Australian Naval bases. Travel locations include, Honolulu, HI; Perth, Australia; San Diego, CA; Bremerton, WA; Norfolk, VA; Groton, CT and St. Mary's, GA

  • Lead/manage a team of 6-10 employees in the absence of the project lead. This includes, but is not limited to, managing on-site installations and devliery schedules

  • Mentor junior employees

  • Support efforts in business development pursuits

  • Perform Cost Account Manager (CAM) duties including managing the Earned Value Managment System (EVMS) for the Trainers team

Candidates must demonstrate passion for innovation, a sophisticated understanding of various engineering systems and the ability to further advance General Dynamics Mission Systems technology.

The DPME and PE Lead position requires a bachelors degree in a Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or the equivalent and at least five to eight years of related work experience. Applicants with a masters degree and a minimum of three to five years of related experience are also eligible.

Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Candidates at a minimum must be able to perform the following:

  • Establish, Status and Maintain the Program Baseline

  • Establish the program Engineering Organization (structure)

  • Identify engineering staffing needs and obtain engineering resources

  • Identify and obtain appropriate facilities and resources and tools for program engineering staff

  • Conduct Engineering Status Reviews and Engineering Technical ReviewsPerform Program Risk Management

  • Manage engineering interfaces with the customer

  • Ability to work within a team environment and provide guidance to engineers

  • Experience directing/coordinating engineering product development programs

  • Experience leading problem solving and troubleshooting assignments

  • Support the development of technical proposals and select subsystems and components to meet requirement

Minimum Requirements:

  • Understanding of Systems Engineering process

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite of Office and related software, including Taskbooks, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Sharepoint, and Project

  • Familiarity with IBM Rational DOORS

  • Technical writing skills

  • Advanced knowledge of a Linux operating system.

    • CentOS or RedHat Linux is preferred

  • Experience with administration of a Linux OS

  • Experience troubleshooting hardware

  • Understanding of virtualization concepts
