General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) has an immediate opening for a Lead Physical Security Systems Engineer to join our Nuclear Weapons Security (NWS) team in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. The position provides an opportunity to develop and advance the cutting-edge technology that supports one of our nation's fundamental defense services. GDMS employees work closely with esteemed clients to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions. The selected candidate's primary focus will be the design efforts associated with the Nuclear Weapons Security (NWS) program, which provides the integrated hardware and software platforms that protect our nation's strategic assets. This engineer will work with other Program Management and the integrated product teams to lead the development of key NWS subsystems. The individual will enhance his/her skill set by working in a challenging and fast-paced environment with a talented and technically accomplished group of colleagues. The employee must be flexible and able to work in a very dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

The Lead Physical Security Systems Engineer provides the expertise required to lead the technical team in the performance of NWS architecture development, design, and test per the Contract. Specific responsibilities may include:

  • Lead the team of security systems engineers in their support of architecture development, design, and test efforts across the program

  • Lead the design efforts specific to NWS Command, Control, Communications, Computer & Intelligence (C4I) Electronic Security System (ESS)

  • Establish and maintain a firm understanding of Nuclear Safety and Nuclear Weapons Surety requirements

  • Champion the adherence to and improvement of both NWS and GD engineering processes across the program

  • Establish and maintain positive customer relationships built on trust and respect.

  • Manage budget and schedule using Earned Value Management

  • Perform functional, cost-benefit, and risk analysis to support design changes

  • Mentor junior engineers in both good systems engineering practices as well as in physical security systems design

  • Strive for commonality and efficiencies both within assigned programs and across the spectrum of other SSP programs

  • Exercise creative thinking and ideation to advance our business performance

  • Suggest improvements and innovations in design and implementation to enhance system performance and meet customer changing business needs

  • Support and engage in programs, projects, and practices behind the General Dynamics culture and strategy, and comply with all policies and procedures

  • Follow industry and department trends and developments to ensure General Dynamics' services are consistent with, and/or superior to, industry best practices

  • Identify and support advance concept efforts in support of Mission and Strategic Systems strategic plans and objectives

Additional Responsibilities:

Additionally, the Lead Security Systems Engineer may be required to support business management functions within General Dynamics, including pursuits, proposals, and Research and Development efforts.

Candidates must have a strong background in Systems Engineering, engineering processes, and leading technical teams. Candidates must show a passion for innovation, a sophisticated understanding of emerging technologies, and the ability to work directly with government customers in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

The Lead Security Systems position requires a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering (EE), Computer Information Systems (CIS), Computer Engineering (CPE), or Software Engineering, or equivalent experience and at least fourteen to sixteen years of related work experience. Applicants with a masters degree and a minimum of twelve to fourteen years of related experience are also eligible.

Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Applicants must exemplify excellent oral and written communication skills, analytical and troubleshooting skills and demonstrate progressive thinking and an interest in advancing the business and their careers.

Due to the recent surge in our staffing needs, this position can also be performed out of Pittsfield, MA.
