About the Business Line
Our team of environment specialists offers clients expertise in air quality, impact analysis and permitting, environmental health and safety management consulting/due diligence, remediation consulting/engineering and construction/site restoration, specialty and emerging technologies, waste services and water and natural resources.

Job Summary
AECOM is seeking an Environmental Scientist for immediate employment in our Conshohocken office. The candidate will be able to demonstrate wetland/botanical and wildlife field experience and permitting skills in New Jersey and Pennsylvania and would complement our talented staff, expand our capabilities, and work within our successful interdisciplinary Impact Assessment and Permitting (IAP) Department. We are seeking a dynamic individual, capable of conducting field surveys and providing local knowledge of ecosystems, someone who works well with others and is comfortable in small or large groups, and who can deliver high quality technical documentation/reports/permit packages. A successful candidate will use these skills to coordinate field services, prepare technical reports and permits, perform quality control/assurance measures, present findings, and interact with internal staff, project managers, regulatory agencies, and client contacts.

Because much of the IAP work is performed in support of larger planning/design and remediation projects, the successful applicant will have the opportunity and will be expected to establish and maintain successful working relationships with project and program managers across the company through excellent performance and successful networking.

The responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to:
  • Conduct field delineations of wetlands and Waters of the US
  • Conduct vegetation and wildlife habitat surveys and complete functional assessments
  • Prepare wetland delineation reports, field data summaries, and federal/state permit applications
  • Research and prepare natural resources sections of NEPA documents
  • Prepare Section 7 correspondence and biological assessments
  • Coordinate with state and federal regulators, as appropriate
  • Coordinate with private sector clients and other consultants, as needed
  • Assist with oversight of staff for the safe and effective completion of field work, post-processing data, deliverable preparation, and quality control
  • Support business development efforts, including the preparation of technical and cost proposals
  • Provide flexibility to serve as a cross-disciplinary resource to meet AECOM/client needs

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, ecology, forestry, soil sciences or a closely related discipline
  • 2 years of experience including organizing, conducting, and leading identification and delineation of wetlands and Waters of the US in NJ and PA
  • Demonstrated experience with preparation of land use / wetland permits and strong working knowledge of laws, regulations and requirements related to the Federal Clean Water Act 401 certification and 404 permitting, ESA Section 7, NJDEP Flood Hazard, Coastal, and Freshwater Wetland Rules, and PADEP Chapter 105 regulations
  • Experience with conducting ecological and functional assessments, floristic surveys, and related studies and proficient with processing and interpreting data for evaluating biological impacts
  • Knowledgeable about wetland mitigation planning and site restoration strategies
  • Strong technical writing and analytical skills: A writing example is requested
  • Experience working in a fast-paced consulting environment and ability to perform well under occasionally tight budget and schedule constraints
  • Self-motivated, strongly team-oriented, organized, and excellent communications skills
  • Valid driver's license and ability/willingness to travel on short- to mid-term assignments

Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) or Wetland Professional In Training (WPIT) certification
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER Training
  • Relevant professional work experience within the power industry, linear projects, and/or with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) related activities
  • Working knowledge of relevant federal and state regulations in CT, DE, MD, and VA
  • Proficiency with GIS and AutoCAD
  • Understanding of contracting and sub-contracting practices and requirements
