We are currently looking to recruit a Fleet Operations Materials Manager in London


The main purpose of the role is the total management of all material and inventory on the East Anglia Project, on time and within budget. This will require close management of risks and opportunities to enhance the company's margin and positioning with the Customer. The Materials Manager will be responsible for the Stores Facility and other offsite premises as used by the Project.


  • Material cost variance analysis and reporting using the material TAC model and associated KPI's and reports
  • Ensuring all material spend is approved in accordance with the delegated authority process agreed (PO approvals)
  • Development & maintenance of an accurate CBOM (using standard format where appropriate) to drive material forecasting, planning & logistics, the creation of scheduling agreements with suppliers based on the CBOM and the ongoing supplier relationship management
  • Provide an overview of Inventory Management including setting of inventory parameters, ensure governance of inventory to railway group standards
  • Responsible for facility management and Health and Safety processes in order to achieve and maintain a quality system across the project
  • Managing the customer interface on a day to day basis ensuring delivery to contract requirements and driving customer satisfaction
  • Provide appropriate material performance reporting at Project Reviews, Customer Reviews and Governance Meetings utilising appropriate tools e.g. TAC Model & SAP reports
  • The leadership and direction of the Materials Team, including managing individual performance & development and succession planning using the available tools
  • Maintaining the compliance with Quality and Safety Standards related to the listed activities

  • Ideally Degree Level education and CIPS Membership
  • Strong experience in Material and Inventory/Stock Management
  • People management and development skills
  • Rail Industry background would be an advantage, alternatively other transportation industries can also be considered (e.g. aviation, trucking, buses)
  • Experience in a servicing/maintenance environment would be ideal
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Project and change management skills
  • Commercial awareness
  • Knowledge of an ERP system (ideally SAP)
