Job Summary
Aecom is currently recruiting for a Land (Rail) Surveyor to join our well established Topographical survey team; this role will be based in the S&C South Alliance Stratford office.

This is a full time permanent position offering a competitive salary and excellent employee benefits.

The candidate must possess a good general understanding of surveying theory, especially an appreciation of systematic errors and their effects, and be competent in the use of Total Stations, Levels & GNSS Receivers and the techniques of Control Surveying, Topographical Surveying & Construction Surveying.

The candidate must be able to assist the Survey Co-ordinator in carrying out his duties as required.

They must be able to understand and interpolate job specifications and carry out work to Company standards and Industry best practice.

As a Land (Rail) Surveyor your daily responsibilities will include:
  • Undertake survey projects as the Lead Surveyor.
  • Support the Senior Land Surveyor in the supervision of junior teams on larger projects.
  • Support the Senior Land Surveyor in the production of digital survey data using existing software packages.
  • Undertaking survey calculations as they apply to survey work.
  • Apply your knowledge of modern survey instrumentation and data processing software to ensure that survey tasks are completed both onsite and in the office in a timely manner.

Minimum Requirements
  • Adequate experience in the rail industry.
  • Capable of supporting the Senior Land Surveyor in leading all on-track survey tasks including the establishment of survey control, S&C, P-Way, profiling, gauging and OLE surveys.
  • Current PTS certificate is essential and you will ideally hold a COSS qualification.
  • Knowledge of possession planning and site safety.
  • Experience in planning and leading survey staff on site.
  • Have a commitment to data quality.
  • Have an eye for detail and the ability to manage your time effectively.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • You will be expected to travel throughout the UK and be prepared to work away from home including at weekends and on night shifts.

Preferred Qualifications
• Be familiar with Leica instruments and field coding systems.
• Have experience of survey data processing.
• Be proficient in the use of processing software packages: N4CE, STARNET, Leica Geo-Office.
• Minimum of HND in surveying or Mapping science.
