Role - Principal systems Engineer |
Req - 83283BR
Location - Harlow
The Land Technical Lead has an overall vision for the technical direction of the business product portfolio and is responsible for making sure that both the business and engineering understands it. This vision is created from understanding the market place, the technology involved and the capabilities within and external to the company. This understanding helps in defining what is essential rather than incidental and helps to ensure a good product-market fit.
Relationship with Product/ Systems
The Land Technical Lead is in a continual conversation with business development, programme managers, system architects and designers about what products and systems are required and how they should work. They are not afraid to push back on decisions they disagree with, but keep the business goals in mind and know when to accommodate them. They find creative workarounds to technical constraints by suggesting alternatives, and help PMs and designers understand technical challenges so that they make informed trade-offs themselves.
The Land Technical Lead is a member of the engineering team, and consider themselves successful when the team is successful. They work to broaden the technical capabilities of their team, making sure knowledge of critical systems is not concentrated in one or two minds. They instigate the development of products through technological insights and contributions. They lead the technical delivery aspects of the product or system development team.
The Land Technical Lead is proactive. They work closely with the team to ensure technical progress is on track by establishing schedule milestones and that the estimates are realistic. They help manage the programme risk by anticipating areas of concern and making sure they are mitigated before they become a problem. They identify technical roadblocks and help the team get around them. They are able to prioritise their work across multiple projects and product lifecycles.
The Land Technical Lead is pragmatic and strives to find a balance between doing it right and getting it done. They encourage their team to find workarounds to problems that are blocking overall progress, and yet to achieve the goal to build viable product. To good technical leads, details matter. Quality, reviews, and testing are just as important as shipping on time. Good technical leads are resilient to changes to the requirement specification and react calmly to surprises. They anticipate where changes might take place and drive the design to accommodate.
A good Technical Lead is easy-going but assertive. Generally a natural leader they earn respect through technical competence and experience. Always looking for ways to improve both their own and their team's knowledge.
