Tyco Security Products designs, manufactures and markets intrusion and access video security products for a global security market for both commercial and residential markets. It has 2,000 employees who are located in R&D engineering, supply chain, manufacturing and sales facilities in N. Ireland, UK, Italy, U.S., Canada, India and China. We are currently looking for a Field Support Technician (Sur-Gard) to join our team in Toronto .

The overall purpose of the position is providing timely and effective customer technical support for SurGard receiver and DSC communicator products and services.


  • Debug product installations, resolving simple product problems by applying established procedures and practices.
  • Assists and instructs customers with product installations, adaptations or enhancements to installed product.
  • Troubleshoot DSC communicators (IP and GSM) related to remote and local programming, communication issues and network issues
  • Maintains problem status and problem resolution records.
  • Prepares reports on problems encountered and methods of resolution applied to ensuring overall system integrity and reliability.
  • Willing to travel to customer locations for installation and training on SurGard Central Station products.
  • On call 24 hours a day for Central Station support.(rotating schedule)
  • Willing to travel to customer locations for emergency assistance on short notice
  • Interface with Engineering to ensure resolutions of major customer issues.


  • Post-Secondary education in Electronics Engineering.
  • Basic Networking experience
  • Basic knowledge of IP communications and troubleshooting.
  • 6 months – 1 year experience in diagnosis and troubleshooting systems.
  • Ability to perform routine troubleshooting/bug verifications uses standard diagnostic tools.
  • Good communication skills in the English language. Ability to use the computer, soldering iron and multimeter.
  • Ability to speak Spanish/French is a definite asset
  • A good working knowledge of Microsoft programs including Word, Excel and Outlook (required)
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work both as an individual and in a team environment to resolve customer issues
  • Valid driver’s license and passport are required, business travel could be required anywhere in North America
  • General knowledge of company products and processes
  • Experience in security, telecommunication or other service-based industries an asset
