About the Business Line
AECOM's Global Support Services (GSS) organization resides within AECOM's Government business line and is comprised of three divisions - International Development, Operations and Mission Support, and Global Programs. GSS has the international presence, personnel networks and procurement infrastructure to deliver support for any mission, anywhere. We optimize the reliability, availability and sustainability of equipment, logistics systems and facilities for clients around the world. GSS supports the U.S. Government, non-U.S. Governments and industry clients with worldwide program management, planning, design, operations and maintenance, logistics, aviation services, security, international development, environmental and civil engineering and mission and intelligence support.

Job Summary
AECOM is seeking a qualified Vice President, Operations to work in our Aberdeen, MD site.

Purpose and Scope:

Lead and manage a business operations function supporting operational and functional areas and issues many times crossing organizational boundaries in the Division and/or the Corporation. Position reports to the Executive or Senior Vice President of the Business Unit.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage the organization's overall business operations function ensuring any applicable staff (regular or temporary) is adequately trained; coordinating workloads, priorities, and schedules to ensure timely and effective completion of work; and monitoring, evaluating or providing input on staff performance.
  • In conjunction with the EVP/SVP and members of the senior management team and others inside and outside the organization develop business operational objectives, strategies, and plans.
  • Conduct short- and long-range planning aimed at business operational projects, issues and concerns.
  • Responsible for business operations project(s) including the development of projects and objectives, leading project initiatives, coordinating resources and staff involvement, providing oversight and direction and ensuring project completion. Business operations projects and assignments may involve, but are not limited to, such areas as program management, business development, contract and functional management, proposal support, acquisition integration and other areas.
  • Report on business operational projects, issues and concerns to the EVP/SVP and other senior members of management at the monthly operations review meetings, strategic planning meetings and other conferences and meetings.
  • On an on-going basis, review and make recommendations for improving business operations policies, procedures and practices.
  • Participate in planning for future development and growth of the organization and in preparation of company/division business development/strategic plans.
  • Represent the organization from time to time in its relationship with customers, government agencies, teaming partners, competitors, government agencies, professional affiliations, and community organizations.
  • Ensure all business operations activities are carried out in compliance with internal policies and practices, laws, and regulations.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting to 20 pounds, consistent sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communications, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines.

Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree; 15 years or more of progressive management operations and business development experience; and excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills as well as a strong business acumen. Position requires a thorough understanding of government contracting/customers and program management. Must have previous experience managing an operation unit with profit and loss responsibility of $100 Million annually. Must be articulate with executive presence, creative and forward-looking, clear thinker and decision-maker, change agent and have a proven track record of continuous business development activities. Position requires travel. Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance. Position will be based in Aberdeen, Maryland and will require full-time presence at that location.

Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree preferred. Extensive prior knowledge of customers and operations at Aberdeen Proving Grounds and Aberdeen community is preferred.
