WSP|Parsons Brinckerhoff is looking to hire a Senior Traction Power Engineer to work in the San Francisco, CA office. Project work will include Power Supply and Distribution Design for Light Rail, Heavy Rail, Commuter Rail and High Speed Rail Projects operating on Overhead Contact or Third Rail Systems. Work location would include both home office and short term travel to Cities installing or planning to install Electrified Transit Systems (long term field assignments are also available). The selected candidate will ensure that company technical policies and procedures are practiced during the execution of projects for clients, and they will lead in developing design approaches and concepts on assigned projects and requests assistance from the senior technical staff when needed.

Job Duties Include:
      • Utilize sound electrical engineering practices to develop designs and reports
      • Prepares power system studies for AC and DC electrified railway systems
      • Lead technical design for both AC and DC railway electrification projects
      • Develop and review designs and technical specifications
      • Develop cost estimates and projections
      • Participate in project working meetings
      • Completeness and accuracy of design team work
      • Assists Project Managers in the coordination of project designs with other disciplines including attendance at project meetings
      • Review shop drawings, record changes and communicate directly with suppliers, contractors and client representatives as required
      • Support the installation and testing of traction power systems components and software
      • Performs site investigations in substations and along railroad tracks
      • Identify construction costs trending out of budget
      • Train and develop support staff

Job Requirements
Education Required:
      • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
Experience/Skills Required:
      • Minimum 5 years of experience of the design, construction, testing and commissioning of Traction Power Supply and Distribution Systems and Equipment, i.e.:
        • AC and DC rail transit traction power substations
        • Wayside cable plant
        • Circuit breakers
        • Switchgear
        • Transformers
        • Rectifiers
        • SCADA and PLC Protection Systems
        • Overhead catenary and third rail characteristics
        • Stray Current Mitigation
      • Familiarity with Design Drawings and Specifications for Traction Power Supply and Distribution Systems and related equipment
      • Knowledge of AREMA and IEEE standards for Traction Power System design
      • Experience working on large transit/railroad projects with substations, 3rd rail and/or overhead contact distribution systems
      • Experience in Transit System Design Management and/or Project Management
      • Strong communication skills and ability to work with others, including multidisciplinary staff in different offices
      • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
      • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
      • Must possess a valid driver's license
Desired Qualifications:
      • Professional Engineering (PE) License
      • Knowledge of commercial AC power system analysis software (load flow, short circuit, relay coordination, grounding grid design) and DC traction power system load flow analysis software
