GDMS has an opening for a Senior Software Architect to join a team of engineers that design a range of high-assurance, ruggedized combat systems, including mission computers, platform computing, special-purpose supercomputers and signal processing systems.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Software Architect leads the design and development of software system applications and/or tools for new programs.

Responsibilities include:
  • Provide technical leadership to software engineering teams
  • Work with customers to develop and present innovative solutions for high assurance systems
  • Organize a team around the architecture and actively contribute to planning activities
  • Investigate new technologies and solve problems
  • Provide direction to integrate and test software and systems

Additional Responsibilities
  • Exercise creative and innovative thinking to advance our business performance
  • Deliver innovative, flexible, integrated solutions to meet customers changing business needs
  • Understand the high assurance processing business domain to anticipate likely architecture changes
  • Support numerous programs simultaneously
  • Rapidly absorb new knowledge bases and incorporate them into new and existing architectures
  • Support and engage in programs, projects and practices behind the General Dynamics Mission Systems culture and strategy
  • Follow industry trends and developments to ensure General Dynamics Mission Systems' services are consistent with or superior to, industry best practices

Basic Qualifications:

Candidates must show a passion for innovation, a sophisticated understanding of software systems and applications, and the ability to effectively develop and lead software solutions. They must have strong written and verbal communication skills and an ability to negotiate with stakeholders.

The Senior Software Architect position requires a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent field and a minimum of ten years of related experience; or master's degree and a minimum of eight years of related experience.

Candidates should be experienced with the following software development skills:
  • Software/Systems architecture
  • Software requirements analysis
  • C/C++ embedded application software development
  • Embedded operating systems including RTOS and partitioned OS environments
  • Network systems and tools
  • Safety critical software systems
  • Software security engineering
  • UML modeling
  • Understand and support diverse software development life-cycles, including waterfall and agile models
  • Proficient in the use of debugging tools
  • Experience working in a Linux environment
