General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Operations team. The position provides an opportunity to develop and advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's fundamental defense services. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed clients to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions. The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams to design and development the systems, processes and tools that support internal and client operations. Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will perform complex mechanical packaging of electronic components using solid modeling and be responsible for supporting the development of detailed design drawings for SSBN programs. The individual will support a team of engineers to perform mechanical, structural and thermal analysis of designs. They will develop and review engineering requirements and documentation, such as drawings, schematics, material specification or other required data. They will support the build, test and qualification of components and assemblies. They will interface with the mechanical engineering team leads and the Strategic System Programs Navy Customer. They will be responsible for documenting all design solutions and changes as required per ASME and DoD standards.

  • Exercise creative thinking and ideation to advance our business performance

  • Deliver innovative, flexible, integrated solutions to meet customers changing business needs

  • Support and engage in programs, projects and practices behind the General Dynamics Mission Systems culture and strategy, and comply with all policies and procedures

  • Follow industry and department trends and developments to ensure General Dynamics Mission Systems services are consistent with, and/or superior to, industry best practices

  • Identify and prioritize risks to result in successful selection and implementation of practical mitigations efforts

  • Develop engineering products for submittal to the Integrated Product Team (IPT) lead

  • Manage workflow by communicating daily with the mechanical team by ensuring program milestones are met

  • Proficient in developing engineering drawings and wiring diagrams in accordance with ASME Y 14.5 standards

  • Support weekly program meetings

Basic Qualifications:

Candidates must demonstrate a passion for innovation, a sophisticated understanding of systems engineering and analysis, and the ability to effectively develop and evolve General Dynamics Mission Systems technology.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer position requires either a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or in a related specialized area or the equivalent and two to five years of related experience or a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or in a related specialized area or the equivalent and zero years of related experience.

Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
