General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) is actively recruiting a Senior Network Design Engineer to support the Warfighter Information Network-Tactical (WIN-T) program. Our team supports the complete US Army Tactical Wide Area Network ( NA ) from complex router networks and state-of-the-art satellite transmissions to the end users on IP Phones, Video Teleconferencing and Computers. In this role you will be expected to:
  • Understand the OSI Network model stack level 1-3 (Physical Layer, Data Link Layer, Network Layer)
    • Specifically protocols: MPLS, BGP, TCP/IP, OSPF
  • Understand Network Management and SNMP
  • Be familiar with Network devices: bridges, switches, routers
  • Virtualizatioin of Network Functions
  • Vendor certifications for: CISCO, Juniper, Brocade, Microsoft solutions
  • Configure, monitor, and manage complex networks
  • Use and configure transmission equipment including modems, RF equipment and antennas
  • Possess familiarity with radio communications including terrestrial and satellite communications
  • Review radio equipment designs, including modems, RF chains and antennas
  • Evaluate a design for compliance to specifications and risks to meeting this compliance
  • Configure and use transmission equipment in support of network level integration
  • Document results clearly
  • Leverage system and lower level specifications: generate integration procedures that verify requirements from the component level to the network level
  • Interface with customers, military personnel, government dignitaries, external consultants/experts and internal technical staff

  • Full use and understanding of systems engineering concepts, principles, and theories
  • General knowledge of other related disciplines
  • Keeps abreast of technology trends
  • Contributes to the achievement of business objectives
  • Proficient with requirements management & system modeling tools
  • Recognizes various architectural patterns
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Able to sell concepts and ideas
  • Creative thinker, good multi-tasker
  • Effective in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actions
  • Ability to clearly report relevant to sound systems engineering design
  • Security Clearance may be required; may require TS/SCI clearance based on program assignment
  • Travel required more than 10% of the time

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in systems, software, computer or electrical engineering, a related field, or the equivalent experience is required. In addition, a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is required.

Must be able to travel 10% of the time.
Applicant must be a US Citizen.
Must be capable of obtaining a Security Clearance.
