The Global Imaging Technologies (GIT) Business Area within General Dynamics Mission Systems, a market leader and technology innovator, is seeking talented professionals to deliver cutting edge solutions to our customers.
General Dynamics Global Imaging Technologies has an immediate opening for an Advanced Optical Manufacturing Engineer to join our team. The incumbent will provide technical guidance across the GIT Structures organization on product, process, plant, manufacturing, assembly, and engineering projects with the goal to improve process capabilities, reduce cost, and improve manufacturability of highly complex opto-mechanical assemblies.
The position provides an opportunity to develop and advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's fundamental defense services. The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams to design and produce state-of-the-art products that support General Dynamics Global Imaging Technologies and our clients. The Advanced Optical Manufacturing Engineer collaborates with the engineering and manufacturing teams to improve Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Optical Assembly and System Testing, and assist in New Product Introduction (NPI). Produce work instructions that comply with program requirements and industry best practices.
• Follows industry trends and developments to ensure GIT's processes are consistent with, and/or superior to, industry best practices
• Actively champions Continuous Improvement and the use of Lean and Six Sigma tools required to achieve it
• Provides technical direction and support to the manufacturing teams
• Leads problem solving initiatives throughout the manufacturing organization
• Recommends with justification capital expenditures
• Practice creative thinking and ideation to advance our business performance
• Deliver innovative, flexible, integrated solutions to meet customers changing business needs
• Support and engage in programs, projects and practices behind the General Dynamics Mission Systems culture and strategy, and comply with all policies and procedures
The Advanced Optical Manufacturing Engineer position requires either a bachelor's degree in Optics or Physics with a minimum of five to eight years of related experience, or a master's degree in Optics or Physics with a minimum of three to five years of experience in manufacturing optical systems.
Applicants selected may be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
