General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Linux/VMWare Administrator to join our team. The position provides an opportunity to develop the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's fundamental defense services. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed clients to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions. The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams to create and manage various General Dynamics Mission Systems and client technologies. Key Responsibilities
The position provides an opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's law enforcement services. The Linux/VMware Systems Administrator will work with collaborative teams to ensure client technologies are functioning as efficiently as possible. This position will be responsible for installing, operating and maintaining a heterogeneous environment consisting of servers running RedHat Linux, VMware ESXi, and Windows. The servers are used to host web applications, and include Apache, Tomcat, Oracle, and MySQL. Network devices include routers, firewalls, switches, load balancers, and network attached storage. A full suite of FISMA compliant security and management applications are also included.
  • Install, configure and update hardware and software.
  • Operate and maintain all integrated systems to support mission operations.
  • Perform daily application updates and maintenance functions.
  • Respond to Tier 3 and Tier 4 trouble tickets.
  • Open trouble tickets and respond to trouble calls.
  • Respond to management system alerts.
  • Deploy monthly security patches and updates.
  • Respond to after-hours trouble calls.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Participate as a member of a small, multi-disciplinary team that works cooperatively to ensure supported applications are available to support the customer mission.
  • Learn other team responsibilities/technologies to enable acting as backup/augmentation as required.
  • Support and engage in programs, projects and practices behind the General Dynamics Mission Systems culture and strategy, and comply with all policies and NA industry and department trends and developments to ensure General Dynamics Mission Systemss services are consistent with, and/or superior to, industry best practices. Support annual FISMA and NIST security requirements.

Basic Qualifications:

Candidates must demonstrate a passion for innovation, a sophisticated understanding of technological systems and programming, and the ability to further integrate and deploy new technology.

  • The person qualified for this position has previously installed, operated and maintained hardware and software that uses the Linux operating system and VMware ESXi.
  • Experience working on a modern virtualized network is required.
  • Experience working in a classified environment is required.

The Linux/VMWare Administrator position requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a specialized area, field or the equivalent and at least two to five years of related work experience. Applicants with a Master's degree and a minimum of zero to two years of related experience are also eligible.

Department of Defense Top Secret is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
