The AECOM Transportation Business line provides professional services in areas such as aviation, transit, freight rail, highways and bridges, planning, and ports and marine. Our global network of top-tier specialists delivers comprehensive services over the full life cycle of a project to benefit clients in government and private industries.

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Electrical Engineer for immediate employment in the Hampton Roads, Virginia area.

This position offers the following opportunities:
  • Extensive work on a variety of large, complex transportation infrastructure projects both regionally and nationally
  • Extensive current and forecasted backlog of project work which requires varying levels of support for intelligent transportation systems (ITS), roadway lighting and associated power distribution
  • Direct collaboration and mentorship with/from senior electrical engineers with 25 years' experience on a high profile and highly sought after Transportation EE team
  • Potential for rapid technical skill development due to complex and diverse project design work

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Perform lighting calculations to support layout of roadway lighting designs
  • Perform electrical calculations for low and medium voltage power distribution design required for transportation infrastructure projects that include roadway lighting and intelligent transportation systems
  • Preparing a variety of concept designs, perform and assist with a diversity of transportation studies, contribute to and write reports for clients, which include multiple state and federal agencies
  • Independently evaluates, selects and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria, using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications
  • Independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works
  • Inspection and condition assessment of electrical equipment and ITS systems
  • Start-up and commissioning support for electrical equipment and ITS systems
  • Develops solutions to a wide range of difficult technical problems
  • Independently determines and develops approach to solutions
  • Plans and coordinates complex assignments and special projects within and/or across departments; gathers, organizes, and assesses information, and develops and prepares recommendations
  • Monitors and coordinates accounting and other data analysis activities as appropriate, and prepares internal reports for management; participates in budget planning and management
  • Imports and exports data to spreadsheets and reports for presentation
  • May conduct in-service training as required
  • Contributes to the planning, coordination, development, and implementation of long-range goals and objectives
  • Performs other additional tasks corollary to capabilities described above as required

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 5 years of experience
  • Engineer in Training Licensure and capable of acquiring a professional engineer's license with 6 months
  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test
  • Must possess a valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications
  • 1 year(s) onsite in transportation construction projects settings and 4 years completing electrical power distribution design work with lighting design work experience
  • Familiarity with NEC, IESNA and AASHTO standards
  • Experience in developing and delivering PSE packages to DOTs as well private clients
  • Knowledge of Micro-station, Auto CADD, AGI32 Lighting Calculation software or similar, SKM Power System Analysis software or similar
